Introduction (Route Information)

  • The distance of the route is approximately 150m and should take approximately 3.5 minutes.
    There are easy slopes and ramps as part of the route.
    The surface along the route includes multi-coloured granite, polished stone tiling and vinyl flooring.
    The route is from the main entrance by the William Harley Building, up the slope, across the main path then down the ramped path past the Annie Lennox Building to the Sir Alex Ferguson Library directly ahead.
  • Buchannan Bus Station is located on the other side of Cowcaddens Road from the University. There is both an underpass and a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights to cross Cowcaddens Road to reach the Main Entrance adjacent to the William Harley Building.

Main Entrance Slope

  • There is a slope at the campus entrance.
  • Along the slope there is the main entrance to the William Harley Building to the right and the Britannia Building to the left. This slope has an easy gradient.
  • After 30m from the beginning of the slope there is a railing to the right of the slope.
  • To the left at this point there is the entrance into the Britannia Building.

Main Entrance Slope to Corner of Annie Lennox Building

  • At the top of the slope continue straight across the main path to the Annie Lennox Building directly in front.
  • The distance to the corner is approximately 25m and the path has an easy slope.
  • The surface is uneven with multi coloured granite tile paving.
  • There are pillars to the left in front of the Annie Lennox Building.
  • To the right there is fixed bench seating on a low wall in front of a grass bank.

  • The next section from the corner of the building to the Sir Alex Ferguson Library Entrance is approximately 55m.
  • The surface is uneven with multi coloured granite tile paving.
  • From the top of the slope continue straight down the path, with the Annie Lennox Building to the left and a grass bank to the right. The slope is easy.
  • After 20m the path forks.
  • Just before the fork there are metal inspection covers in the paving and a lamppost at the edge of the grass bank.
  • Take the right fork to follow the path around a raised grass bank on the left.
  • There is a branch off to the right of the main path at this point with small cobbled paving to contrast.
  • At the end of the bank on the left there is another lamppost at the edge of the path.
  • Go straight ahead and bear left under the spiral staircase to enter the building via the accessible automatic door.

Outside Access (Main Entrance - Accessible)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building to the left of the revolving doors.
    • There is ramped/sloped access at this entrance.
    • There is not a bell/buzzer.
    • There is not an intercom.
    • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically (towards you).
    • The door(s) is/are push pad activated.
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 180cm (5ft 11in).
  • Ramp/Slope View
    • There is a ramp/slope at this entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located on the path leading to the entrance.
    • The ramp/slope gradient is slight.
    • The ramp is permanent.
  • Comments View
    • There are security barriers as you turn into the building that reduce the opening width to 84cm.

Entrance to Sir Alex Ferguson Library Ground Floor Desk

  • From the accessible entrance to the desk the distance is about 19m.
  • The flooring is smooth vinyl with a stone tile pattern. There is a foot mat immediately upon entering the door.
  • On entering the building turn right and pass through security barriers. The width is reduced to 84cm between the barriers and there is a small ramp.
  • Continue through the barriers and bear right into the building past a smart table and self-service book return.
  • After 10m go round the pillar to the left to enter the Library Desk area. The desk is directly ahead with a scanner to the left.
  • There are various seating types available nearby.
