Overview

  • About View
    • The City Halls is made up of the Grand Hall, Recital Room, Club Room and Candleriggs Bar. The Old Fruitmarket is part of the City Halls complex but it is its own separate space.
      The City Halls and Old Fruitmarket is a multipurpose, flexible concert, function and conference venue.
      The venue is also home to private clients including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Scottish Music Centre.
    • Facilities available in the venue include: the Old Fruitmarket music venue, the Grand Hall concert hall, Recital Room and Clubroom lettable spaces, offices, rehearsal rooms, Bazaar Bar, Old Fruitmarket Bar and Candleriggs Bar.

  • Parking and Public Transport View
    • The venue does not have its own car park.
    • There is on-street Blue Badge Bay parking, on-street standard parking, a public car park nearby and a taxi rank.

    • Multi-storey parking may be found on Albion Street at Q-Park Candleriggs. The car parks has designated Blue Badge bays and lift access. Customers may pre-book parking via the Q-park website or app and use the code CHOF25 for a 25% discount.
    • Please note the Ingram Street NCP is due for permanent closure.
  • Getting In and Around View
    • There is step-free level access at the most accessible entrance.
    • There is a stage door entrance with step-free level access at the rear of the building giving access to the stage door reception.
    • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas, this may include the use of a lift.
    • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: the link corridor between the front and the rear of the building, including the toilet with adaptations and standard toilets and the Candleriggs bar on level 3.
    • The following areas have stepped access: the front entrance to the Old Fruitmarket, the balcony seating in the Grand Hall, the stall seating in the Grand Hall other than the terraces and back row.
    • Access throughout may include manual doors and doors permanently held open.
    • Levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 can be accessed via a standard lift and stairs.
    • Facilities are located on the following floors:-
      Level 1 - the main lobby, box office, Old Fruitmarket, Bazaar Bar, toilets
      Level 2 - cloakroom, toilets, baby change
      Level 3 - Recital Room, Candleriggs bar, Old Fruitmarket balcony, toilets
      Level 4 - Grand Hall stalls
      Level 5 - clubroom meeting room, toilets
      Level 6 - Grand Hall balcony.
  • Getting Help and Assistance View
    • There is seating available.
    • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair.
    • British Sign Language Interpreters can be requested prior to your visit.
    • Documents are available in the following formats: Braille (on request) and large print (on request).
    • Glasgow City Halls offers the free Sennheiser MobileConnect app for assistive listening, available on iOS and Android. You can use this app with your own smartphone and headphones, neck loop, or hearing aids to listen to events. To use it, download the app, connect to the "Hearing Assist" WiFi network within the venue, and then adjust the sound levels to your preference.
    • There is a water bowl available for assistance dogs.
    • There is not a designated assistance dog spending area.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • Toilet Facilities View
    • There are 3 toilets with adaptations.
    • Toilets with adaptations are located on level 1, level 2 and level 3.
    • The toilets with adaptations have a transfer space on both sides.
    • There is a slight slope to the toilet facilities on level 1.
    • The male and female standard step-free toilet facilities are located on:-
      Level 1 - at the rear of the Bazaar Bar
      Level 2 - to either side of the cloakroom
      Level 3 - to the right side of the Candleriggs Bar
      Level 5 - to the rear of the Clubhouse (limited access).
  • Changing Places and Changing Facilities View
    • Parent and baby changing facilities are located on level 1 and 2.
    • The baby changing facilities are located on:-
      Level 1 within the toilet with adaptations cubicle
      Level 2 in the Baby Changing and First Aid room to the right of the cloakroom
      Level 2 in the female standard toilet facilities to the right of the cloakroom.

Parking

  • On-street Parking View
    • The on-street designated Blue Badge parking bays are located on Albion Street.
    • The Blue Badge bays are clearly marked.
    • There is additional standard on-street parking on Ingram Street.
    • There is no parking on Candleriggs.
  • Public Car Parks View
    • There is a public car park located on Albion Street.
    • The name of the car park is Q-Park Candleriggs.
    • Designated Blue Badge parking bays are available in the car park.
    • City Halls customers are invited to book in advance on the Q-Park website or app and use the code CHOF25 for a 25% discount at the Q-Park Candleriggs multistorey car park.
    • Please note that the Ingram Street NCP carpark adjacent to the venue is due to permanently close.

Main Entrance

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building on Candleriggs.
  • The approach to the entrance has uneven surfaces.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.

  • There are double automatic doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open towards you.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas, this may include the use of a lift.

Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located to the left as you enter.
  • The distance from the main entrance is 20m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access and manual doors.
  • Levels 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 127cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 135cm (width) x 250cm (depth).

  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
