    • The Burrell Collection is a museum and gallery. The Burrell Collection is part of Glasgow Life Museums.
    • Facilities available in the venue include: a museum with exhibition spaces and galleries, event spaces, multi-use spaces, meeting rooms, learning room, large screen, restaurant, coffee bar, picnic areas, shop, toilet facilities and changing places.

      A free electric shuttle bus operates in the park seven days a week between the park entrance at 2060 Pollokshaws Road and the Burrell Collection. Buses run 10.00 to 12.00 and 13.30 to 16.30 half hourly.
  • Getting In and Around View
    • There is step-free level access at the most accessible entrance.
    • There is step-free level access at the Heritage Entrance (accessible entrance) and at the Main Entrance to the ground floor.
    • There is step-free level access throughout, this may include the use of a lift.
    • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: the lower level of the special exhibition space and the first floor Maker's Galleries bridge between the front and rear galleries.

    • There are two changing places on the ground and lower ground floors.
  • Getting Help and Assistance View
    • There is seating available.
    • There is a fixed hearing assistance system.
    • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair.
    • Additional equipment which can be borrowed or hired includes: folding stools and sensory packs.
    • There is a designated safe space which can be used by people with dementia, autism or learning disabilities.
    • The designated safe space is located on the ground floor near the Heritage Entrance.
    • British Sign Language Interpreters can be requested prior to your visit.
    • Documents are available in the following formats: large print and different languages.
    • You can access information about the exhibits using the Bloomberg app, which features the top 30 objects in the collection in 10 languages including BSL.
    • There are tours by staff, volunteers and curators on the app.

  • Related Access Guides View
    • Pollok House is located in Pollok Country Park. The house is undergoing a major refurbishment and likely to remain closed until the end of 2025.

    • At the time of survey (September 2025) Pollok House was closed for refurbishment and maintenance works. It is expected to reopen in 2026.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • Toilet Facilities View
    • There are 3 toilets with adaptations.
    • Toilets with adaptations are located by the ground floor Heritage Entrance, lower ground restaurant, and first floor central lifts.
    • The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
    • The male and female step-free standard toilet facilities are located by the ground floor Heritage Entrance and by the lower ground floor near the restaurant.
    • The gender inclusive step-free standard toilet facilities are located by the ground floor Heritage Entrance.
  • Changing Places and Changing Facilities View
    • The Changing Places toilet facilities are located by the ground floor Heritage Entrance and the lower ground floor restaurant.
    • Parent and baby changing facilities are located on the ground, lower ground, and first floors.
    • There is a parent and baby changing cubicle, and a baby changing unit in the toilet with adaptations cubicle and male and female toilet facilities on the ground floor by the Espresso coffee bar.
    • There is baby changing unit in the toilet with adaptations cubicle on the lower ground floor by the restaurant.
    • There is baby changing unit in the toilet with adaptations cubicle on the first floor by the central lift.

Parking

  • Car Park View
    • The car park is located opposite the building in Pollok Park off Pollokshaws Road.
    • The car park is open air/surface.
    • The car park surface consists of tarmac and concrete.
    • There are 15+ designated Blue Badge parking bays available.
    • The Blue Badge bays are clearly marked and signposted.
    • The surveyed Blue Badge parking bay dimensions are 230cm (width) x 600cm (depth).
    • There is a marked zone to both sides but not at the rear.
    • The width of the marked zone is 120cm.
    • The nearest designated bay is 60m from the Heritage Entrance.
    • The most accessible route from the Blue Badge parking has step-free level access, a slight ramp or slope, uneven surfaces and bollards.
    • Blue Badge parking is on the Burrell Collection side of Knowehead Road. There are level kerbs at the parking bays without tactile paving.
    • For standard parking there are slight or steep slopes, and Knowehead Road to cross between the main car park and the Burrell Collection.
  • Charges and Restrictions View
    • Parking is not free for all users.
    • Parking is free for Blue Badge holders.
    • Clearly presented parking signs are available.
    • Payment machines are located at the side of the car park.
    • There is not a payment machine with controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.

    • Payment can be made by cash: no change is given. All coins are accepted except 10p, 5p, 2p and 1p coins.
    • Alternatively, there is a payment machine at the central exit from the car park which accepts card or contactless payment or payment can be made via the RingGo app, which has an additional 30p fee.
  • Electric Vehicle Charging Points View
    • There are more than 10 electric vehicle charging points.

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free with slight slopes.
  • There are two regular use entrances to the building.
  • The nearest accessible entrance from the car park and the shuttle bus stop is the Heritage Entrance.
  • Both entrances have automatic doors and step-free level access.
  • The entrances are not signed, however they are referred to as the Heritage Entrance and the Main Entrance throughout this guide.
  • The Heritage Entrance gives step-free level access to the ground floor, including standard and adapted toilet facilities, Changing Place, Espresso coffee bar, quiet room, and main reception.
  • The Main Entrance has step-free level access.
  • There is a part-time entrance to the lower ground floor by the restaurant. This has stepped access only from the main entrance level externally, or step-free level access from the lower park level at the right side (east) of the building.

Getting Around the Museum

  • The museum is indoors.
  • There is step-free level access throughout all areas, this may include the use of a lift.

Heritage Entrance

  • This entrance is located to the left side at the front of the building.

  • There are large security doors at this entrance which are permanently held open during opening times.
  • The minimum width between the bollards on the approach to the entrance is 120cm.
  • There are double automatic doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open by sliding.
  • The width of the opening is 155cm.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is a second set of double automatic doors.
  • The second set of doors open by sliding.

Main Entrance

  • This entrance is located set back at the front of the building to the right of the Heritage Entrance.
  • The approach to the entrance has uneven surfaces.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.

  • There are double automatic doors at this entrance, however one door is locked or bolted.
  • The doors open by sliding.
  • The width of the opening is 140cm.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • The second door at the entrance was out of order at the time of survey (September 2025).

Main Reception and Lobby

  • The reception is located on the ground floor on the left as you enter.
  • The distance from the Heritage Entrance is 30m.
  • The most accessible route to reception has automatic doors.
  • There is step-free level access to reception.
  • The height of the reception desk is 80cm.
  • There is a lowered section at the desk.
  • The height of the lowered section is 75cm.
  • There is a clearly signed fixed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There is background noise in this area which varies depending on the time of day.
  • Lighting levels vary due to the size of the space.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre in the seating area (150cm x 150cm).
  • There is space for an assistance dog to rest in the seating area.
  • Seating available in this area includes: chairs with armrests, chairs without armrests, armchairs and benches.

Central Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located in the centre of the building to the rear of the shop.
  • The distance from the Heritage Entrance is 120m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
  • The lower ground, ground, first and second (limited access) floors are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a medium visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a low visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 90cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 110cm (width) x 140cm (depth).
  • The internal lift control buttons have a low visual contrast, Braille markings and tactile markings.
  • All of the internal lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • Internally the lift has: a visual floor indicator, a list of floor services/facilities, an audible announcer and a mirror to aid reversing.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
  • There are other lifts available at this location which vary in size.
  • There is a larger goods lift also at this location which is staff operated only. It was out of use at the time of survey (September 2025).

  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 90cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 110cm (width) x 140cm (depth).

Stairs - Ground to First

  • The stairs surveyed are located on the right of the reception.
  • The ground and first floors can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 16 steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 1cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey, with unshaded light sources.
  • There are similar stairs from the North Gallery. There are also similar stairs from the East Gallery, and the central area to the first floor Maker's Galleries, but with handrails on both sides.

Stone Stairs - Ground to First

  • The stairs surveyed are located to the right of the reception lobby seating area.
  • The ground and first floors at the Maker's Galleries bridge can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 18 steps between floors.
  • The steps are unmarked and have a handrail on the left going up.
  • The handrail is easy to grip.
  • The handrail covers the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrail extends horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 18cm.
  • The depth of the steps is between 30cm and 45cm.
  • Lighting levels vary due to the use of large glazed walls.

Restaurant Stairs - Ground to Lower Ground

  • The stairs surveyed are located to the far right (east) of the building at the front.
  • The ground and lower ground floors can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 20+ steps between floors.
  • The steps are unmarked and have a handrail on the right going down.
  • The handrail is easy to grip.
  • The handrail covers the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrail does not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is not between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 19cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
  • Lighting levels vary due to the use of large glazed walls.
  • The stairs can be bypassed by either lift.

Central Stairs and Screen - Multi-use Area

  • Access To View
    • The Central Stairs are located in the centre of the building to the rear of the shop, leading down to the screen and multi-use area on the lower ground floor. This area has step-free level and open access on both floors, which are linked by the Central lift.
    • This is a multi-use area for large screen presentations, talks, musical performances and as a picnic area for groups.
    • There is an unmarked designated area for wheelchairs at the front (lower ground floor) or open step-free access at the rear (ground floor).
    • There is open step-free access into the area at ground floor level and to lower ground floor level via the Central lift.
    • The Central stairs between the ground and lower ground floors give access to the seating rows.
    • There are 20 steps with a handrail on the right going up.
    • The handrail is easy to grip.
    • The handrail covers the flight of stairs throughout its length.
    • The handrail extends horizontally beyond the first and last step.
    • The step markings are not clearly visible.

  • Screen Information View
    • The following rows have step-free level access: the front row on the lower ground floor; the rear row of the seating area (not wheelchair accessible).

  • The North Gallery stretches the full length of the ground floor at the rear and has large windows to one side providing views of the Pollok Country Park forest.

Central Galleries - Ground Floor

  • This area is indoors.

  • The Central Galleries comprise three large rooms and six smaller rooms. Lighting levels in the Central Galleries are low to protect objects and artefacts.
  • The larger rooms have dark walls hung with tapestries. There is a reactive lighting projection on one wall that reacts as you approach.
  • There are screens, digital videos, and games that play sound and music that visitors can interact with. They are available in 10 different languages, in subtitle and audio for. This includes British Sign Language (BSL).

East Galleries - Ground Floor

Storytelling Gallery - Ground Floor

Makers Galleries - First Floor

  • All exhibits are indoors.

  • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: the first floor bridge corridor and link gallery between the front (south side) and the rear (north side) galleries. The lift corridor parallel provides an alternative step-free level access.
