Introduction

  • The Lecture Theatre is located on the ground floor of the Richard Hoggart Building. It is signed as a cinema as it has changed from a Cinema to a Lecture Theatre. The Lecture Theatre is located towards the North-West side of the building.It can be accessed via the Richard Hoggart building or via the accessible entrance into Thirty-Five Café. The entrance to the Lecture Theatre is then directly ahead through one set of manual, double doors as you exit the Café.
  • The front of the building is facing onto Lewisham Way. There are various maps/signage around Campus which show the buildings and the accessible routes are clearly marked.. There is a map by the Blue Badge bays on Dixon Road and by the main and rear entrances to the Richard Hoggart Building.

Getting Here

  • By Road View
    • Goldsmiths is located in New Cross, South East London on Lewisham Road, five miles from central London.

      From Central London take the A2 towards Dover via the Old Kent Road.
      At the end of Old Kent Road (on the New Cross Gate one-way system) turn into New Cross Road.
      Keep in the right hand lane and shortly after Sainsbury's take the A20 fork to Lewisham.
      Turn right at the traffic lights into Lewisham Way – Goldsmiths is on the left.

      From Kent, Surrey, Sussex, or north if using Blackwall Tunnel or Dartford River Crossing (southbound).
      Follow the A2 or A20 towards London (using M25 or South Circular road to join the nearest of these).
      On the A20, after passing through Lewisham, the Richard Hoggart Building is clearly visible on the left after about one mile.
      On the A2, follow the left turn after New Cross Station into Amersham Road, turn right at the traffic lights into Lewisham Way – Goldsmiths is on the left downhill.
    • There is no public parking on the Goldsmiths campus.
      Parking is very limited on the Goldsmiths campus. There are a number of designated bays for Blue Badge holders reserved for current staff and students with mobility needs.
      There are 2 on-street Blue Badge bays on Dixon Road, to the right of the Richard Hoggart Building, approximately 40m from the main entrance gate.
      Visitors requiring parking should contact the college at least 48 hours in advance.
  • By Bus View
    • The following buses stop outside Goldsmiths: 21, 36, 53, 136, 171, 172, 177, 225, 321, 343, 436 and 453.
  • By Train View
    • The nearest over ground station is New Cross Rail Station and is approximately 5 minutes away.
      New Cross Gate rail station is also within travelling distance of Goldsmiths.

Building Parking

  • The building does not have its own dedicated parking.
  • Site/Campus Car Parks View

      There is an accessibility map with the ideal accessible routes by the bays.
      Photographs 4-8 show the standard on-street parking along Laurie Grove and the accessibility maps with accessible routes which are at the top and bottom of the road.
      The first 25m of Laurie Grove is a 'red route' with restrictions on parking from Monday to Saturday from 7am to 7pm. Cars can park for 1 hour maximum with no return within 2 hours. Outside of these times there are no restrictions.
      The bays are not individually spaced.
      The majority of Laurie Road after the first 25m has unrestricted parking along one side of the road. There are no road markings or signage that indicate restrictions.

    • This Car Park is only available to authorised personnel (staff, contractors etc.) or for Blue Badge holders. Users need to contact the University in advance to arrange access 48hours or more before arrival. The car park has limited parking and a gated entrance with security.
    • At the time of survey (January 2022) the pedestrian entrance had no gate attached although usually does. The gate's width is 120cm and there is a slight slope. There are key card readers 120cm high for the gate.
    • There is an intercom for the Security Hut by the gate which has a button at 94cm high. The key card reader are 98cm high. The gates are shown in photographs 1-3.
    • There are dropped kerbs and tactile paving by 2 of the 3 Blue Badge bays. The bays and dropped kerbs are shown in photographs 4-7.
    • Photographs 8 and 9 show the standard bays, some of which are tarmac and some which consist of loose gravel.
    • Photographs 10-12 show the signage by the Blue Badge bays in the car park and there is directional signage and maps that show the accessible routes to the surrounding buildings.

    • The push button to exit/ enter is 90cm high as shown in photograph 2.
    • To access this entrance you must follow the sloped path from the front gates up towards the main entrance. From there, the path to the entrance is to the right-hand side of the building and is around 130cm wide.
    • Before the entrance there is a gate which is 138cm wide and permanently held open shown in (photographs 4 and 5).
    • There is uneven paving between this gate and the entrance.

Outside Access (Rear Entrance - George Wood Theatre side)

Eating and Drinking (Thirty Five Café)

  • Location and Access View
    • The café is located on the ground floor off the main corridor of the Richard Hoggart Building. The lower section is accessed directly by an accessible entrance.
    • There is step-free access to the café.
    • The Café has two sections. The accessible entrance enters into the lower section which has seating and a Café which is used mainly for certain events and was not in use at time of survey (January 2022).
      This section is shown in photographs 1-4.
      There is a ramp or steps to access some of the seating and to access the main section of the Café.
      The exit from the Café which is directly ahead from the accessible entrance (photograph 3) is opposite the Lecture Theatre. The main section of the café is open daily for students/staff (photographs 6-12). There are double doors which are 123cm wide and are permanently held open between the two areas. There is a short 15cm slight slope/ lip by these doors.

Getting Around
