Introduction - Boiler Room and Engine Room

  • The entrance to the Boiler Room and Engine Room is located along the Deck 2 internal corridor.
  • There is height restriction of 120cm (4ft). This is due to very steep ladders to access the Boiler Room and Engine Room.
  • There are 113 steps along the route through the Boiler Room and Engine Room.
  • In places the walkways are 40cm wide.
  • At the entrance to the Boiler Room and Engine Room there are information boards including a route map and height restriction information.

Deck 2 to Boiler Room Ladder

  • There is a ladder leading from Deck 2 to Deck Level 3 Boiler Room.
  • The ladder has handrails on both sides.
  • There are gaps between each step.
  • The ladder must be used facing forwards.
  • Caution is advised when going down the ladder due to the narrow opening.

Boiler Rooms

  • The hatches leading into the boiler room are permanently held open.
  • The width of the hatches is 75cm.
  • There are seals in the hatchways that need to be stepped over.
  • The highest seal is 30cm.
  • The Boiler Room is over Decks 3, 4 and 5.
  • The majority of the walkways around the Boiler Room are narrow, with some being 40cm wide.
  • There is clear signage around the Boiler Room.
  • There are information videos.
  • The ceiling is low in places.
  • There is signs indicator when you are below the water line.
  • There are background noises of a working Boiler Room.
  • There are ladders providing access down and the decks.
  • The ladder has handrails on both sides.
  • There are gaps between each step.
  • The ladders must be used facing forwards.
  • Caution is advised when going down the ladder due to the narrow openings.
  • After the Boiler Rooms the route moves into the Crew Bathroom.

Crew Bathroom

  • There are hatchways leading into the Crew Bathroom corridor. They are permanently held open and the minimum width of the hatchways is 60cm.
  • There are seals in some of the hatchways that need to be stepped over. The height of the seals vary between 30cm cm to 50cm.
  • The corridor passes the Crew Bathroom areas and there is an opportunity to look into these areas.
  • The surface of the flooring is metal.
  • At the end of the Crew Bathroom visitors have the option of going down to the Engine Room, looking at the Common Machine Workspace or going back to the Main Deck via the ladder.

Engine Rooms

  • There is ladder leading down to the Engine Rooms.
  • The ladder has handrails on both sides.
  • There are gaps between each step.
  • The ladders must be used facing forwards.
  • Caution is advised when going down the ladder due to the narrow openings.
  • The Engine Room is over Decks 3 and 4.
  • The majority of the walkways around the Engine are narrow, with some being 40cm wide.
  • There is clear signage around the Engine Room.
  • There is a video with subtitles about the Engine Room.
  • The ceiling is low in places.
  • There is a signs indicator when you are below the water line.
  • There are background noises of a working Engine Room.
  • There are ladders providing access down and the decks.
  • The ladder has handrails on both sides.
  • There are gaps between each step.
  • The ladders must be used facing forwards.
  • Caution is advised when going down the ladder due to the narrow openings.
  • After the Boiler Rooms the route moves up to the Common Machine Workshop.

Common Machine Workshop

  • The Common Machine Workshop is located on Deck 3.
  • The Common Machine Workshop can be accessed from the Crews Bathroom Corridor or after going through the Engine Room via the Ladders.
  • There is a walkway through the Workshop.
  • There is step-free access along the walkway.
  • The surface of the flooring is metal.

Ladder to Deck 2

  • The access back to Deck 2 is via a ladder.
  • The ladder has handrails on both sides.
  • There are gaps between each step.
  • The ladders must be used facing forwards.
  • Caution is advised when going down the ladder due to the narrow openings.
