Overview

  • About View
    • Hornsea promenade is split into an upper and lower promenade which is accessible directly from the road, allowing wheelchair users easy access. The most accessible entry to the lower promenade is from the corner of Marine Drive and Hornsea Leisure Centre. There are a number of slopes and ramps running from the top to the lower promenade heading North, however these are often steeper.
    • Facilities available in the venue include: cafés, accessible and standard toilets, visitor information and chalet rental, paddling pool, seating and beach wheelchairs.

    • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
    • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: access to different promenade levels and the beach.
    • The following areas have stepped access: some access to the beach and between promenade levels.
    • Access throughout may include uneven surfaces and bollards.
  • Getting Help and Assistance View
    • There is seating available.
    • There is no hearing assistance system.
    • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair.
    • Additional equipment which can be borrowed or hired includes: beach wheelchairs.
    • Documents are available in the following formats: Braille (on request), large print (on request) and different languages (on request).
    • Additional facilities/services include: Wi-Fi.
    • Staff receive the following training: Customer Excellence and First Aid Training.

Room (Marine Drive Chalet)

  • There is a key lock at a height of 150cm.
  • There are double manual doors with a high visual contrast.
  • One of the doors was locked at the time of the survey.
  • The locked door can be opened on request.
  • The door opens towards you.
  • The door is easy to open.
  • The width of the opening is 82cm.
  • There are 2 locks on chalet doors; one is a padlock and the other is a standard key lock at a height of 95cm.

    • The most accessible route to the toilet has a very easy slope and doors permanently held open.
    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
    • The door opens outwards and has a high visual contrast.
    • The door is easy to open.
    • The width of the door opening is 86cm.
    • The door has a locking handle (with a RADAR key to access).
    • Internally the door has a medium visual contrast.
    • There is a grab rail on the internal door with a high visual contrast.

    • The dimensions of the cubicle are 150cm (width) x 185cm (depth) and there is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is a lateral transfer space to the left as you face the toilet, however it is obstructed.

Access To (Beach)

  • There are slipways from the lower promenades that will allow wheelchair users access to the beach. Depending on the weather conditions, slipway flood gates might be closed. There are wooden groynes that run across the beach.
