Overview

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • Toilet Facilities View
    • There are 2 toilets with adaptations.
    • Toilets with adaptations are located on the central promenade, and next to the Lifeboat Station at the south end of the promenade.
    • The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
    • The standard and accessible toilets located centrally on the promenade are available all year round. Additional facilities, subject to seasonal closure, are located near the RNLI Lifeboat Station at the south end of the promenade.
    • The male and female step-free toilet facilities are located on the central promenade.
    • The male and female toilet facilities are located are located near the RNLI Lifeboat Station at the south end of the promenade..
  • Changing Places and Changing Facilities View
    • Parent and baby changing facilities are located in the parenting room, within the toilet block on the central promenade.

Outdoor Spaces (Promenade)

  • The following is available in this area: a toilet block.
  • Outdoor areas consist of concrete or tarmac, block paving and paving slabs.
  • There are footpaths throughout.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: access to the promenade and limited access to the beach (slipways).
  • The following areas have stepped access: upper levels on the promenade, and the majority of access to the beach.
  • There are seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • The paths have bollards and uneven surfaces.

Outdoor Spaces (Belvedere Play Park)

  • The following is available in this area: a playground with play equipment and a grassed play area.
  • Outdoor areas consist of concrete or tarmac and compact earth.
  • There are footpaths in some areas.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
  • The following areas have stepped access: some play equipment.
  • There are seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • The paths have uneven surfaces.
  • Playground View
    • There is a playground with an access point over 100cm wide.
    • There is a route around the play equipment which is not firm and even, but is over 150cm wide.
    • The play equipment is within easy reach for seated and standing users and users of different heights.
    • The following play experiences are available: swinging, sliding, rocking, rotating, climbing, balancing, crawling, viewing, sensory (visual, audible, or tactile) and social play.

Toilet with Adaptations (Left Hand Transfer)

  • Location and Access View
    • The toilet surveyed is located at the front of the main toilet block on the central promenade.
    • The distance from the nearest Blue Badge parking is 10m.
    • The most accessible route to the toilet has step-free level access, uneven surfaces and doors permanently held open.
    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
    • The door opens outwards and has a high visual contrast.
    • The door is easy to open.
    • The width of the door opening is 87cm.
    • The door has a locking handle (with a RADAR key to access).
    • Internally the door has a high visual contrast.
    • There is a grab rail on the internal door with a high visual contrast.
  • Dimensions and Features View
    • The dimensions of the cubicle are 160cm (width) x 260cm (depth) and there is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is a lateral transfer space to the left as you face the toilet, however it is obstructed.
    • The lateral transfer space is 69cm (from the side of the toilet pan).
    • There is a lever flush on the non-transfer side.
    • There is a horizontal grab rail on the non-transfer side.
    • The horizontal grab rail has a low visual contrast.
    • There is a vertical grab rail on the transfer side.
    • The vertical grab rail has a low visual contrast.
    • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.

    • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.

Access To (Beach and Lower Promenade)

  • There is limited step-free access to the beach at this location, and lower levels of the North Promenade.
  • The most accessible route has steep ramps or slopes, uneven surfaces and bollards.
