Introduction (Huddersfield Railway Station to Civic Centres/Registrars/Customer Service Centre)
- This guide is based in Huddersfield.
- This guide covers the route from Huddersfield Railway Station to Civic Centre/Customer Service Centre and covers some shopping areas along the route. .
- This guide runs from the Huddersfield Railway Station to the north-north-west of the route and ends at Civic Centre/Customer Service Centre to the south.

- The M62 Junction 24 is located approximately 2.8 miles away from the north-west end of the guide (Huddersfield Railway Station via A629 Halifax Road, A629 Edgerton Road, A629 New North Road, A62 Castlegate, Trinity Street and Westgate Street).
- Parking
- There is limited on-street Blue Badge parking and standard parking available on Railway Street, Market Street and some side roads.
- Several public car parks are also available throughout the route.
- By Bus
- There are several bus stops available on Railway Street and Market Street with direct services available to Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Bradley, Wakefield and many more destinations.

- By Train
- Huddersfield Railway Station is located at the north west end of the guide off Railway Street.
- There is step-free access to the platforms.
- There are direct train services available to Leeds, Manchester Airport, Huddersfield, Bradford, Liverpool, Manchester, London and the north.

- There are limited Blue Badge and standard on street parking bays on some side roads.
- There is no charge for these parking bays.
- Parking is limited to 60 minutes for non-Blue Badge holders depending on the parking area.
- Blue Badge holders may park in any of the bays for a maximum of 3 hours.

Junction – Huddersfield Railway Station and Railway Street
- The square in front of the train station is pedestrianised leading to Railway Street.
- There are crossing points at this junction to cross Railway Street.
- All the crossings have low kerbs and no tactile paving.
- The low kerbs do not contrast with their surroundings and could be a trip hazard.
- The surface of the roads is tarmac or block paving.
- The surface of the pathways is concrete paving slabs.
- The road and pathway have a slight uphill slope as you exit the railway station in Railway Street towards Westgate.
- The road and pathway have a slight uphill slope as you exit Railway Street from Westgate in the direction of travel towards the Railway Station and along the rest of Railway Street.
- There are several bus stops available along this section.

Huddersfield Railway Station to Westgate via Railway Street

- The pathways on both sides are all over 120cm wide.
- The road and pathway have a slight uphill slope as you exit the Railway Station in Railway Street towards Westgate.
- There are some steep uphill slopes along the route.
- The pathway is mainly concrete paving slabs, with some tarmac patches.
- There are some uneven areas on the pathways throughout this section.
- There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as signs, railings, bus stops, bins and signboards.
- There are several side roads and access roads along the section to cross, with most of these having dropped kerbs and no tactile paving.
- The surface of the road is tarmac at the crossings.
- There are no on street Blue Badge parking and standard parking bays.
- The length of this section of the route is approximately 160 metres and takes approximately 3-5 minutes to walk.
Junction – Westgate, Railway Street and Market Street
- There are several pedestrian crossing points at this junction to cross Westgate, Railway Street and Market Street.
- The pedestrian crossings have audibled and visual signals and rotating cones underneath the controls for visually impaired users.
- The controls and buttons are between 75cm and 120cm in height.
- All the crossings have dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides.
- The control posts and controls are set back from the kerb and may be difficult to locate by a visually impaired user.
- The surface of the roads is tarmac.
- The surface of the pathways is paving slabs.
- The road and pathway have a steep uphill slope as you exit Railway Street into Westgate and Market Street.
- The road and pathway have a slight uphill slope as you exit Westgate into Market Street towards Cloth Hall Street.
- The road and pathway have a slight downhill slope as you exit Railway Street into Westgate from right to left.
- There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as signs, bins and signboards.

Westgate to Cloth Hall Street via Market Street

- There are several side roads and access roads along the section to cross, with most of these having dropped kerbs and no tactile paving on both sides.
- There is pedestrian crossing point midway along the section opposite Sainsbury’s.

- The road and pathway have a slight uphill slope as you exit Market Street from the direction of Imperial Shopping Arcade towards the Civic Centre/Customer Service Centre via footpath.
- The road and pathway have a slight downhill slope as you exit Market Street from the direction of Imperial Shopping Arcade towards the High Street from left to right.
- There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as signs, railings, and bins.
- Traffic is busy at this junction and multi-directional.
Market Street and High Street to Civic Centre/Customer Service Centre via Footpath
- This is a pedestrian only area.
- The pathways on both sides are wide.
- The road and pathway have a slight uphill slope as you exit Market Street from the direction of Imperial Shopping Arcade towards the Civic Centre/Customer Service Centre via the footpath.
- The pathway is block paving throughout.
- There are some uneven areas on the pathways throughout this section.
- There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as bollards, signs and bins.
- There are some areas of block paving with large repeating patterns that could be mistaken for steps.
- There are bollards just before the pedestrian crossing to cross the High Street.
- The bollards are over 120cm in width and they do contrast visibly with the block paving.
- The length of this section of the route is approximately 75 metres and takes approximately 1-2 minutes to walk.
Junction - High Street to Footpath and Civic Centre/Customer Service Centre
- There is a pedestrian crossing at this junction to the High Street and the footpath to the Civic Centre and Customer Service Centre.
- The pedestrian crossing has audibled and visual signals and rotating cones underneath the controls for visually impaired users.
- The controls and buttons are between 75cm and 120cm in height.
- The crossing post and controls are set back from the kerb and may be difficult to locate by a visually impaired user.
- All the crossings have dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides.
- The surface of the roads is tarmac.
- The surface of the pathways is block paving on the High Street/Market Street side and concrete paving tiles on the Civic Centre side.
- There is a central island to rest whilst crossing the High Street.
Footpath to Civic Centre 1 and Registrars and Civic Centre 3
- This is a pedestrian only area.
- The footpath is ahead as you exit the junction for the High Street to Footpath and Civic Centre/Customer Service Centre.
- The surface of the pathways is concrete paving tiles.
- The road and pathway have a slight uphill slope as you exit Market Street from the direction of Imperial Shopping Arcade towards the Civic Centre 1 and Registrars.
- There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such bollards. and bins.
- Stay on the footpath ahead for Civic Centre 3.
- Turning left towards Civic Centre 1 and Registrars, just before the Job Centre there is a steep slope downwards.
- The pathway surface is still concrete paving tiles.
- There is a slight ramp at the end of the footpath.
- The ramp leads downwards and is over 120cm in width.
- The ramp has handrails on both sides.
- Alternatively there are 5 medium height steps to the right of the ramp.
- The steps have a handrail on the left (going down).
- The ramp bypasses the steps.
- The Civic Centre 1 and Registrars entrance is then to the right as you exit the ramp.
- There is seating outside the Civic Centre 1 and Registrars.
Footpath to Customer Service Centre
- After exiting the High Street to Footpath and Civic Centre/Customer Service Centre junction turn right onto the pavement and then left to the Customer Service Centre Pathway.
- The pavement is concrete paving tiles.
- The footpath to the Customer Service Centre is block paving.
- There is a steep uphill slope as you exit the pavement to the footpath.
- There are some obstructions such as signs.
- The Customer Service Centre entrance is ahead at the end of the footpath.
