Junction – Huddersfield Railway Station and Railway Street

  • The road and pathway have a slight uphill slope as you exit Market Street from the direction of Imperial Shopping Arcade towards the Civic Centre/Customer Service Centre via the footpath.
  • The pathway is block paving throughout.
  • There are some uneven areas on the pathways throughout this section.
  • There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as bollards, signs and bins.
  • There are some areas of block paving with large repeating patterns that could be mistaken for steps.
  • There are bollards just before the pedestrian crossing to cross the High Street.

Junction - High Street to Footpath and Civic Centre/Customer Service Centre

  • There is a pedestrian crossing at this junction to the High Street and the footpath to the Civic Centre and Customer Service Centre.
  • The pedestrian crossing has audibled and visual signals and rotating cones underneath the controls for visually impaired users.
  • The controls and buttons are between 75cm and 120cm in height.
  • The crossing post and controls are set back from the kerb and may be difficult to locate by a visually impaired user.

Footpath to Civic Centre 1 and Registrars and Civic Centre 3

  • This is a pedestrian only area.
  • The footpath is ahead as you exit the junction for the High Street to Footpath and Civic Centre/Customer Service Centre.
  • The surface of the pathways is concrete paving tiles.
  • The road and pathway have a slight uphill slope as you exit Market Street from the direction of Imperial Shopping Arcade towards the Civic Centre 1 and Registrars.
  • There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such bollards. and bins.
  • Stay on the footpath ahead for Civic Centre 3.
  • Turning left towards Civic Centre 1 and Registrars, just before the Job Centre there is a steep slope downwards.
  • The pathway surface is still concrete paving tiles.
  • There is a slight ramp at the end of the footpath.
  • The ramp leads downwards and is over 120cm in width.
  • The ramp has handrails on both sides.
  • Alternatively there are 5 medium height steps to the right of the ramp.
  • The steps have a handrail on the left (going down).
  • The ramp bypasses the steps.
  • The Civic Centre 1 and Registrars entrance is then to the right as you exit the ramp.
  • There is seating outside the Civic Centre 1 and Registrars.

Footpath to Customer Service Centre

  • After exiting the High Street to Footpath and Civic Centre/Customer Service Centre junction turn right onto the pavement and then left to the Customer Service Centre Pathway.
  • The pavement is concrete paving tiles.
  • The footpath to the Customer Service Centre is block paving.
  • There is a steep uphill slope as you exit the pavement to the footpath.
  • There are some obstructions such as signs.
  • The Customer Service Centre entrance is ahead at the end of the footpath.
