Overview

  • About View
    • Cobble Hey has been a working hill farm since 1681 and still raises a wide range of sheep and beef cattle breeds. Although previously open to the public, the farm and facilities are now only open for pre-arranged educational groups, classes and visits.
    • Facilities available in the venue include: farm buildings, standard and adapted toilets, educational and meeting facilities for a range of pre-arranged groups.

  • Getting In and Around View
    • There are a range of buildings and facilities at the venue, with ramped access to all of the educational and indoor spaces.
    • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: the former tea room and shop, the educational space, throughout the animal barns and outdoor spaces.
    • Access throughout may include uneven surfaces.
  • Getting Help and Assistance View
    • There is seating available.
    • There is no hearing assistance system.
    • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: walking aids, an electric scooter and mobility scooter charging facilities.
    • Additional equipment which can be borrowed or hired includes: a Tramper (all-terrain mobility scooter) available for educational groups, that needs to be arranged in advance. Other mobility equipment can be borrowed if contacted in advance.
    • There is a designated safe space which can be used by people with dementia, autism or learning disabilities.
    • The designated safe space is located the former team room.
    • There is a water bowl available for assistance dogs.
    • There is not a designated assistance dog spending area.
    • Staff receive the following training: First Aid, Disability, Equality and Inclusion Training.

    • The most accessible route to the toilet has slight ramps or slopes, uneven surfaces and doors permanently held open.

    • The door opens inwards and has a high visual contrast.

Eating and Drinking (Former Tea Room)

    • This is the former tea room. Although currently not open to the public, it is used for some educational events and meetings.
    • There is step-free access via ramp into this area.
    • The ramp has a slight gradient.
    • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide with a handrail on the right going up.
    • The ramp bypasses the steps.
    • There are 4 steps with handrails on both sides.
    • The handrails are easy to grip.
    • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.

    • The following areas have stepped access: the raised area that was formerly a shop.

    • Seating available in this area includes: chairs without armrests and benches.

  • Facilities available in this area include: animal pens and enclosures, hand washing facilities and seating.
  • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
  • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: throughout the animal barn.
  • Access throughout the area may include uneven surfaces and narrow walkways.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
  • Seating available in this area includes: benches.

Outdoor Spaces (Gardens, Outdoor Spaces and Tramper Trails)

  • The following is available in this area: a playground with play equipment, gardens, farmland and open countryside.
  • Outdoor areas consist of cobbled surfaces, loose chippings and grass.
  • There are footpaths in some areas.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
  • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: some of the higher areas are challenging for visitors with access or mobility needs.
  • There are not any seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • The paths have gates and uneven surfaces.
  • Playground View
    • There is a fenced play area with an access point over 100cm wide.
    • There is a route around the play equipment which is not firm and even, but is over 150cm wide.
    • The play equipment is within easy reach for seated and standing users and users of different heights.
    • The following play experiences are available: swinging, sliding, rocking, climbing, balancing, viewing, sensory (visual, audible and or tactile).

Access To (Information Centre)

  • The Information Centre is located beyond the main farm site.
  • The distance from the car park is 300m.
  • The most accessible route has steep ramps or slopes, uneven surfaces and manual gates.
  • The slope has a steep gradient.
  • There is stepped access into the Information Centre.
  • There are 2 steps with no handrails.

Access To (Bird Hide)

  • The Bird Hide is located beyond the Information Centre, at the top of the farm site.

  • There is sloped and stepped access into the Bird Hide.
  • The slope has a slight gradient.
  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide with no handrails.

  • There is a single manual gate which opens towards you.
  • The gate is easy to open.
