Introduction

  • The following information describes the Shopping Area from East Street to and including Clockhouse Avenue.
  • This route is approximately 0.7 miles (11.27m).
  • The route takes approximately 5-10 minutes to walk on average but this can vary.
  • There are no bus stops located on either East Street or Clockhouse Avenue.
  • The surface of paths along the route consists of tarmac and block paving and is a mixture of pedestrian only and main roads
  • The potential hazards on this route include; busy roads, side roads, congested pathways, steep and slight slopes, several crossing point and uneven pathways.
  • The guide is split into the following sections:-
  • 1. East Street - North Street to Ripple Road.
  • 2. 2. Clockhouse Avenue - North Street to East Street.

Getting Here

  • By Car
  • The shopping area surveyed is located on mainly Station Parade and Ripple Road which is approximately 1.2 miles from the A13(Alfred's Way) which gives you direct links east to the M25 and west to central London.
  • By Bus
  • There are several bus stops on nearby roads around the shopping area such as Barking Station(Stop K) and Westbury Road(Stop T) at the southern end of the route, With direct links available to Dagenham, Ilford and East Ham.

  • By Train
  • Barking Station is located at the top of Station Parade.
  • There are direct services to London Fenchurch, Grays, Tilbury and Leigh-on-Sea.
  • There is step-free access to all platforms by ramps/slopes
  • Staff are available to assist with boarding via ramps.

Parking - Clockhouse Avenue

  • Public Car Parks.
  • There are public car parks available near East Street and Clockhouse Avenue including the Bobby Moore car park located off Axe Street and the Vicarage Field shopping centre car park located off either Ripple Road or Station Parade.

  • There are standard and Blue Badge bays located on Clockhouse Avenue.

1. East Street - North Street to Ripple Road

  • East Street is located off North Street. East street is a pedestrianised shopping area.
  • The surface of the paving area consists of concrete block paving, some tarmac and some cobbled surfaces.
  • The surfaces may be uneven.
  • There are some bollards located within the area. The bollards have a height of 100cm and do have a coloured collar band near the top.
  • The access width between some of the bollards can be as little as 120cm.
  • There is some tactile paving located where there is a dropped kerb.
  • There is no seating available within this area.
  • There is no parking located within this area.

2. Clockhouse Avenue - North Street to East Street

  • Clockhouse Avenue runs from North Street to East Street.
  • Clockhouse Avenue is approximately 322 metres in length, 5 minutes walking distance.
  • There are both Blue Badge bays and standard parking bays located on this road.
  • The pavement surface consists of block paving, concrete and some tactile paving.
  • There are some bollards located at the top of Clockhouse Avenue that have a height of 110cm, the narrowest access width is 80cm(photograph 12).
  • There is some bench seating available on Clockhouse Avenue.
  • On the left side of Clockhouse Avenue there are 2 access points to East Street before the end of the avenue.
