  • There are services on the ground floor of the Library in the Learning Centre (Holloway Campus) and Calcutta House (Aldgate Campus).

The Great Hall

  • The Great Hall is comprised of a large level open space which can be used for a variety of functions (photographs 1-4).
    There are 2 raised stages at either end of the Hall.
  • There are six identical 100cm wide archways to the side of the room where the toilets and bar are located (photograph 4).
  • The staged seating (photographs 5-8) is closest to the lift, with all but 1 step bypassed by a platform lift to one side of the stage.
    There is a desk (111cm high) to the rear of the stage that is accessed by a 10cm step.
  • The front section of the stage is 70cm high with a railing along the front which is 110cm high.
    There is a red flashing fire alarm to the side of this stage.
  • On the floor level of the Great Hall, there is a speakers desk (94cm high) with no induction loop (photograph 9).
  • There is a bar which serves drinks for functions which was closed at the time of survey (March 2022). The counter is 110cm high (photograph 10).
  • There is a evacuation chair and a refuge point with an intercom 100cm by the disabled toilet in the Great Hall. It has braille and tactile markings (photographs 11).
  • The main performance stage is 100cm high and is accessed via 2 fire doors and 5 marked steps with highest being 22cm high.
    The stage is only used by staff (photographs 12-14).

Getting Around

  • Access View
    • There is step-free access throughout the majority of the building, via lift.
    • There is sloped/ramped access to the Rocket Bar, the majority of the seating areas and the pool and foosball tables.
    • There is stepped access to the male toilets in the Rocket Bar, the two raised seating areas to the rear of the Rocket Bar and the rear section (high table) of the staged seating in The Great Hall.

    • There are doors in corridors/walkways which have to be opened manually.
    • There are corridors/walkways with a surface width of less than 120cm (excluding any permanent obstructions over a small distance).

  • Signs indicating the location of the lift are not available from the entrance.
  • The lift is approximately 2m (2yd 7in) from the The Rocket Lift.
  • The lift is a platform lift.
  • A member of staff does not need to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The platform lift accesses a small level change.
  • The weight limit for the lift is 300kg.
  • There is a clear level manoeuvring space of 150cm × 150cm in front of the lift.
  • Lift doors do not contrast visually with lift lobby walls.
  • The external controls for the lift are within 90cm - 110cm from the floor.
  • The colour contrast between the external lift controls and the control plate is high.
  • The colour contrast between the external lift control plate and the wall is low.
  • The clear door width is 87cm (2ft 10in).
