  • 26 Leake Street is a multi-function venue for hire.
  • The venue comprises of 3 long enclosed railway arches aligned parallel to one another, with a single access point between each.
  • This guide describes the central arch and the main arch.

  • General access to function attendees is via the Leake Street entrance, located within the Leake Street Arches.
  • There are also entrances on Addington Street, which are usually service access points.

Leake Street Arches

  • Visitors should be aware that the Leake Street Arches "Graffiti Tunnel" features highly complicated "street" artwork comprising of many detailed designs and contrasting colour schemes on all surfaces, including the walls, ceiling, and on the pedestrian pavement and pedestrianised road surface.
  • Some of the art concepts may possibly also be considered challenging, controversial, or even offensive by some people.

Entrance (Leake Street Arches)

  • The entrance surveyed is located in the Leake Street Arches "Graffiti Tunnel". Look for the illuminated sign for number 26.
  • There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
  • There is a slight slope over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently held open.
  • The width of the opening is 240cm.
  • There is not a second set of doors.
  • There is a long slope with a very easy incline towards level flooring after the entrance.

Counter (Cloakroom)

  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 112cm.
  • There is not a low level counter at the recommended height for seated users (between 76cm - 86cm).
  • Lighting levels are low at this counter.
  • There may be background noise here.
  • The counter does not have a hearing assistance system.

Approach (Addington Street)

  • There are high tables immediately inside, either side of the entrance with a surface height of 103cm above the floor.

Entrance (Addington Street Left)

  • The entrance surveyed is located to the left of the two sets of entrances.
  • There is not step-free access at the entrance.
  • There is 1 step, which is clearly marked, with no handrails.
  • There are double manual doors which open towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 130cm.
  • There is not a second set of doors.

Entrance (Addington Street Right)

  • The entrance surveyed is located to the right of the two sets of entrances.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • There is a slight ramp between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is 1 step, which is clearly marked, with no handrails.
  • The ramp overcomes the step.
  • There are double manual doors which open towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 142cm.
  • There is not a second set of doors.
  • The ramp is portable and is available on request to staff.
    The portable ramp is located immediately beyond the threshold of the doorway. The portable ramp is shown in use in photographs 6 and 7.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free access, via lift, throughout the majority of the building.
  • Some flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • The building does not have a hearing assistance system.
  • Background noise and lighting will vary according to event arrangements.
    All seating and counters are fully moveable and will be laid out according to event arrangements.
    General moveable counters have a surface height 102cm above the floor.
    There are oil barrels used as tables with a surface height 87cm above the floor.
    There may be moveable tape barriers in use.
    The flooring is mostly concrete with occasional trip hazards such as drain covers, laid in metal rails, and some cracks.

Ramp or Slope and Steps (The Bar @ 26 Leake Street to Central Arch)

  • Between 75cm and 150cm wide and The ramp is steep .
  • The ramp does not have handrails.
  • There is 1 step.
  • The step is clearly marked with no handrails.
  • The ramp overcomes the step.
  • Lighting levels are low.

Lift (Central Arch)

  • This lift is a platform lift.
  • A member of staff needs to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The lift overcomes a small level change.
  • Externally the lift has: a door with a poor colour contrast to the surroundings, buttons with a good colour contrast to the surroundings and controls at a recommended height (between 90 - 110cm).
  • The lift does have a recommended turning space (150cm x 150cm) in front of it.
  • The lift door opening width is 82cm.
  • The dimensions of the lift are 80cm x 140cm.
  • Internally the lift has: a separate door to exit, controls at a recommended height (between 90 - 120cm), tactile markings and buttons with a good colour contrast to the surroundings.
  • The doors to enter and exit the lift are manually operated.

Steps (Central Arch)

  • There are 4 steps.
  • The steps are clearly marked but there are no handrails.
  • These steps may be removed according to event arrangements.

Ramp or Slope (Central Arch to Main Arch)

  • Over 150cm wide and The slope is steep .
  • The slope does not have handrails.

Accessible Toilet (Ground Floor - Left Hand Transfer)

  • This accessible toilet is located behind the performance area of the main arch, towards the Addington Street entrances.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This accessible toilet is approximately 56m from the Leake Street entrance.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a good colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the accessible toilet door opening is 94cm.
  • The door has a locking handle (with a RADAR key to access).
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 180cm x 226cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 115cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a lever flush on the non transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
  • The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: the wash basin and the soap dispenser.
  • The following fixtures cannot be reached from the toilet seat: hand dryer.
  • The height of the toilet seat above floor level is 48cm.
  • The wash basin tap type is lever mixer.
  • The height of the wash basin is 70cm.
  • The height of the soap dispenser is 94cm.
  • The height of the hand dryer is 95cm.
  • The height of the baby change is 68cm.
  • There is a pull cord emergency alarm but it was tied up at the time of the survey.
  • There is not a shelf.
  • The cubicle also has: a sanitary bin.
  • The cubicle does not have a mirror and coat hooks.
  • The following have a good colour contrast with their surroundings: all grab rails, the dropdown rail and the floor.
  • The following have a less clear colour contrast with their surroundings: the internal door and the toilet seat.

Stairs

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are G, 1.
  • There are 15+ steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked with handrails on both sides.
  • The steps are medium height (11cm - 17cm).

Standard Toilet (First Floor)

  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a good colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
  • The wash basin tap type is sensor.
