- Wolfson building is a very large building with 3 floors.
Originally the Wolfson building and the TW Building were the names given to separate buildings that have now been merged into a single building. There is still some signage for the TW Building which refer to one side of the current building. - There is 1 main lift and 3 main staircases within the building.
- The floors are signed as Ground, First and Second Floor.
- There is a restricted access research lab on the ground floor of the building which mean that there is not step-free access on the ground floor without exiting the building and entering via a different entrance.
- Wolfson building is a very large building with 3 floors.

Getting Inside
- The approach to the building is step-free and level.
- Wolfson Building has three entrances.
All three entrances provide step-free access to the ground floor.
There is a push pad activated, single automatic door at the rear entrance.
The side entrance has double automatic doors and the front entrance has double manual doors. - The entrances are signed as Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering.
Getting Around
- There is step-free level access to each part of the building, however in order to gain step-free level access to the ground floor of the TW Building you must enter via the side entrance.
- Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
- There are resting areas in some corridor and lobby areas with a mixture of seating.
- Wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
- There are manual doors in some corridor and lobby areas.

- There are 4 toilets with adaptations.
- Toilets with adaptations are located on each floor next to the lift, and on the ground floor ahead as you enter via the side entrance.
- All toilets with adaptations have a right hand transfer space.
- The male and female step-free toilet facilities are located on each floor, off the main corridor.

Entrance (Rear)
- This entrance is located at the rear of the building.
- The entrance area is clearly signed.
- There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.

- There is a single automatic door at this entrance.
- The door opens towards you.
- There is a push pad at a height of 77cm.

- There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.

Lift
- The lift surveyed is located in the middle of the building.
- The distance from the rear entrance is 7m.
- The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access and manual doors.
- The ground, first and second floors are accessed by this lift.
- The lift door has a high visual contrast.
- The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
- The external lift control buttons have a medium visual contrast.
- All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The lift door opening width is 80cm.
- The internal dimensions of the lift are 107cm (width) x 136cm (depth).
- The internal lift control buttons have tactile markings and a low visual contrast.

Stairs
- The stairs surveyed are located to the left as you enter via the front entrance.
- The ground, first and second floor can be accessed by these stairs.
- There are 20+ steps between floors.
- The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
- The handrails are easy to grip.
- The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
- The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
- The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
- The height of the highest step is 17cm.
- The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
- Lighting levels vary due to the use of large glazed walls.
Reception
- The reception is located on the first floor, to the right as you exit the lift.
- The distance from the lift is 5m.
- The most accessible route to reception has doors permanently held open.
- There is step-free level access to reception.
- The height of the reception desk is 124cm.
- There is a lowered section at the desk.
- The height of the lowered section is 75cm.
- The reception has patterned/distracting backgrounds.
- There is not a hearing assistance system.
