Hikes and Trails (Tennyson Down Trail - Short)

  • The trail is approximately 4 miles long.
  • The trail commences from the car park in Highdown Lane and rises via a steep slope and steps to the headland and the monument.
    From the monument, take a right turn and follow a grass path all the way to the New Battery at the Needles. The pathway is undulating with mainly slight slopes.
    At a gate, turn and return on a grass pathway near to the cliff edge back to the monument.
  • The hike is open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: grass and mud.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients, steps and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: from the car park and to the monument on the headland.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is not clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards with large maps and online maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
