- There is a separate exit.
- The exit has a narrow exit opening, a door permanently held open, manual doors and a steep ramp/slope.
- The entrance can be used to exit by visitors with limited mobility.
Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and sunglasses.
- You can borrow these from the Visitor Reception building. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: an off-road/all-terrain mobility scooter and a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Carriage House Café)
- From the Visitor Reception, follow the path into the stables courtyard. The café is on the right.
- The route to the area is step-free level.
- Path surfaces along the route are concrete and gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the Carriage House Café.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.
- There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 144cm.
Eating and Drinking
- This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
- There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered and table service (on request only).
- Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
- Menu types include: written wall menus, menu boards and counter menus.
- Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
- The following are available here: a portable card machine for payment.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There is background noise here which varies, depending on the time of day.
- There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
- There is a counter over 85cm high without a tray rail.
- The counter is 90cm high.
- There is not a section of the counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- There is step-free level access around some of the seating area.
- There are bench seats, tables, long tables, high tables, chairs without armrests and high stools available in the seating area.
- The seating area does not have: a priority table and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests.
- There are some tables which are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The surface height of the tables is 74cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: some of the chairs and some of the tables.
- Some flooring in the area is smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
- Additional seating which does not have step-free level access is located in the Groom's Room and Hunter's Stable.
- Some of the seating area has ramped access.
- The ramp to some seating has a slight gradient.
Exit
- The exit is located at the front of the café.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the exit.
- The steep ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with handrails on both sides.
- There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 65cm.
Picnic Area
- The following information describes the picnic area located in front of the café.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There are tables, long tables, bench seats and stools.
- Some chairs have armrests on both sides.
- Adapted picnic tables are not available.
- The surface height of the lowest table is 67cm.
- The surface height of the highest table is 78cm.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- Some of the surface in the picnic area in the area is smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
