Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and sunglasses.
  • You can borrow these from the Visitor Reception building. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: an off-road/all-terrain mobility scooter and a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Carriage House Café)

  • From the Visitor Reception, follow the path into the stables courtyard. The café is on the right.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are concrete and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the Carriage House Café.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 144cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered and table service (on request only).
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: written wall menus, menu boards and counter menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: a portable card machine for payment.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is background noise here which varies, depending on the time of day.
  • There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There is a counter over 85cm high without a tray rail.
  • The counter is 90cm high.
  • There is not a section of the counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the seating area.
  • There are bench seats, tables, long tables, high tables, chairs without armrests and high stools available in the seating area.
  • The seating area does not have: a priority table and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests.
  • There are some tables which are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The surface height of the tables is 74cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: some of the chairs and some of the tables.
  • Some flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
  • Additional seating which does not have step-free level access is located in the Groom's Room and Hunter's Stable.
  • Some of the seating area has ramped access.
  • The ramp to some seating has a slight gradient.

Exit

  • The exit is located at the front of the café.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the exit.
  • The steep ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with handrails on both sides.
  • There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 65cm.

Picnic Area

  • The following information describes the picnic area located in front of the café.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There are tables, long tables, bench seats and stools.
  • Some chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The surface height of the lowest table is 67cm.
  • The surface height of the highest table is 78cm.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • Some of the surface in the picnic area in the area is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
