Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and sunglasses.
  • You can borrow these from the Visitor Reception building. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: an off-road/all-terrain mobility scooter and a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Mansion)

  • From the Stables Courtyard, follow to path to the right for approximately 500 metres, this will take you to the front of the Mansion.
    From the Stables Courtyard, follow to path to the right until you reach the signpost and take the left path, this will take you to the most accessible entrance.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.

Entrance (Main)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the Mansion.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There are 10+ steps, which are unmarked, with handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails cover all steps.
  • Some of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 125cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.

Entrance (Accessible)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the rear of the Mansion.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 112cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.

Tour

  • The tour is guided.
  • The tour takes approximately 45 minutes.
  • There is step-free access via lift or stepped access along the tour route.
  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • The tour can be adapted to avoid inaccessible areas.
  • Areas with stepped access only can be experienced by visitors via an information booklet.
  • Different tour types are available which may vary the tour time and route.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise along the tour route.
  • Tour information includes the following formats: information booklets, Braille, audio description and audio guides.
  • Floor plans/maps are available for the tour route.
  • The tour has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There are chairs without armrests at regular intervals along the tour.
  • Some flooring along the tour route is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.

Toilet with Adaptations (Toilet Block - Accessible - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located within the toilet block next to the Manion.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 40m from the main entrance.
  • There is tactile and pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 100cm.
  • The door has a locking handle.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 170cm x 240cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 117cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.

  • Location and Access View
    • The facility is additional to standard and accessible toilets, and is not located close to other managed facilities.
    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is tactile and pictorial signage on or near the door.
    • A RADAR key is required for access to this facility.
    • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
    • The width of the door opening is 97cm.
    • The door has a locking handle.
    • The door does not have a horizontal grab rail.
    • The dimensions of the facility are 396cm x 327cm.
    • The ceiling height is at a minimum height of 2.4m and there is a clear 200cm x 180cm manoeuvring space in the facility.
    • The facility has a non-slip floor.
  • Toilet Details View
    • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
    • The transfer space on the right as you face the toilet is 308cm.
    • The following grab rails are available: vertical grab rails on both sides of the toilet.
    • There is a dropdown rail on both sides of the seat.
    • The following have a high colour contrast with their surroundings: the internal door, all grab rails, the floor, both dropdown rails and the toilet seat.
