Admissions

Public Transport

  • There is a bus stop within approximately 150m of the site.
  • The bus stop is approximately 150 meters from the entrance to the Avebury site, on the road into the village.
    The Old Farmyard, with the shop and restaurant, are approximately another 100 meters down a gravel path.
  • The nearest train station is Pewsey.
  • Pewsey Station is approximately 10.9 miles from Avebury. Swindon train station is slightly further away, at 11 miles, but it is better connected with a regular bus service to Avebury.

Parking (Village Car Park - Blue Badge and Permit Holders Only)

  • This site has a shared car park.
  • This is an open air car park with a tarmac surface.
  • Parking is free for Blue Badge holders only.
  • Maps and information boards are not available.
  • There are 8 Blue Badge parking bays.
  • The dimensions of the designated Blue Badge parking bay(s) surveyed are 250cm x 425cm.
  • There is a hatched zone on both sides but not to the rear.
  • The hatched zone is under 120cm wide.
  • The nearest Blue Badge bay is 1m from the site entrance.
  • Obstacles from the car park include: a road crossing, a lack of pedestrian walkways to cross the car park, cobbles and slopes/ramps.
  • There are not parent and child parking bays available.
  • There is not a designated drop-off point.

Shop (Second-hand Bookshop - Village Car Park)

  • There is step-free level access into the shop.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 164cm.
  • The majority of aisle widths are under 150cm.
  • Flooring in the shop is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.

  • The height of the counter is 83cm.

Route to (Visitor Reception in Old Farmyard from Village Car Park)

  • Leave the village car park via its entrance; there is a short slight slope here, and then turn right towards the village.
    Follow the tarmac road for approximately 70 meters, then turn right down a gravel path for another 100 meters.
    You will arrive in the Old Farmyard between the shop on the left, the restaurant on the right and the visitor reception straight ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Parking (Main)

  • This site has a car park.
  • The vehicle route from the main road to the car park includes: uneven surfaces.
  • This is an open air car park with a loose chippings and compacted gravel surface.
  • Parking is free for National Trust members and Blue Badge holders, but charges apply for all other visitors.
  • There are clearly presented payment signs.
  • Maps and information boards are available.
  • There are 2 Blue Badge parking bays.
  • The nearest Blue Badge bay is 400m from the entrance to the Old Farmyard.
  • Obstacles from the car park include: uneven surfaces, loose chippings, a road crossing and a lack of pedestrian walkways to cross the car park.
  • There are not parent and child parking bays available.
  • There is not a designated drop-off point.

Visitor Reception (Welcome Trailer - April - October 10:00 to 16:00 - Main Car Park)

  • Access into the area is via steps.
  • All flooring is smooth and even.
  • The Welcome Trailer was closed at the time of survey (October 2023).
    If it is closed when you visit, please go to the main Visitor Reception in the Old Farmyard.

Route to (Visitor Reception in Old Farmyard from Main Car Park)

  • Take the tarmac path to the right of the welcome trailer, follow this path for approximately 300 meters, until you come to a road.
    Cross the road to the right of the red brick houses in front of you and follow a gravel path for another 100 meters.
    You will arrive in the Old Farmyard where with the shop on the left and the visitor reception straight ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel, muddy and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
  • The path from the car park is uneven in places.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: soft toy.
  • You can borrow these from the Visitor Reception for the manual wheelchair and the Manor House for the sensory pack. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: an off-road/all-terrain mobility scooter. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Visitor Reception (The Old Farmyard)

  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, permanently held open and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 140cm.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • The majority of aisle widths are over 150cm.
  • There is room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) throughout the area.
  • Some of the flooring is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven floorboards.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 115cm.
  • There is a low level section at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The counter is placed in front of a patterned background, has windows, TVs and glazed screens or mirrors which could adversely affect the ability of someone to lip read.
  • The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There are tables and bench seats available in the visitor reception.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
  • Services/facilities available include: a portable card machine for payment and a member of staff to provide assistance.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • Lighting levels are low.
  • The exit door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The exit can also be used to enter the visitor reception and is only open in dry weather.
