Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: soft toy.
  • You can borrow these from the Visitor Reception for the manual wheelchair and the Manor House for the sensory pack. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: an off-road/all-terrain mobility scooter. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Stone Circles)

  • From the Visitor Reception take the gravel path between the Restaurant and Shop to the road.
    Turn left and after approximately 28 meters you will come to a gate on the right before the Shop which accesses the field containing the stones.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located on the village road.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which opens away from you (push).
  • The gate is self-closing.
  • The width of the gap is 160cm.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: fields with the stone circles around them, and a steep ditch after the stones.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • There are slight and steep slopes throughout.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • The paths have gates which may create obstacles for some users.

Hikes and Trails

  • The walk is approximately between 200 and 350 meters in length, depending where you walk within the fields.
  • The largest stone circle in the world with other monuments within it including a cove and two stone circles, surrounded by a huge henge bank and ditch.
  • The walk is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: tarmac, grass and gravel.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients.
  • These are found in the following areas: the areas closer to the stones and leading to the ditch after the stones.
  • There are alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is not clearly signposted.
  • The route has handheld maps.
  • The route travels through areas which are busy with traffic and pedestrians.
  • Seating is not available on the route.
  • There are standard and accessible toilet facilities along the route.
  • There are several gates along this route which may be difficult to open.
    To leave the field take the exit to the right of the houses as you look back to the village.
    Cross the road through the village car park to another gate into the second field of stones.
    Continue to the village car park, and turn right down the road to the National Trust site.

Toilet with Adaptations (Near Village Car Park - Ambulant - Right Hand Transfer - Open April to October)

  • This toilet is located to the left after you leave the village car park, by the bus stop. This toilet is only open April to October.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 65cm.
  • The door has a locking handle.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 147cm x 213cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 88cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
  • The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder, wash basin and soap dispenser.

  • The baby change table is in the female toilets only. These toilets are only open April to October.
