Route to (the Walled Garden Restaurant)

  • From the Visitor Reception entrance gates turn right and follow the path.
    The Walled Garden Restaurant is then the second entrance on the right.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are concrete and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front left of the restaurant.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 68cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.
  • The locked door can be unlocked on request providing an opening width of 136cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a restaurant which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered and table service (on request only).
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: written wall menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery, takeaway cutlery, a portable card machine for payment, large-handled mugs and large-handled cutlery.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There is a counter under 85cm high without a tray rail.

  • The seating area does not have: a priority table and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests.
  • There are no tables which are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The surface height of the tables is 70cm.
  • All flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • The majority of the flooring has a very shiny finish, which could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.

Exit (to External Sunken Garden)

  • The exit is located in the main seating area to the right.
  • There is step-free level access at the exit.
  • There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 77cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the exit with a height of less than 1.5cm.

Picnic Area (External Sunken Garden)

  • The following information describes the picnic area located just past the internal exit to the garden.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There are tables.
  • All chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The surface height of the lowest table is 76cm.
  • The surface height of the highest table is 76cm.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
