About Brownsea Island - National Trust

    Accessibility Overview

Sitting within Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island is accessed via ferry and features Visitor Centres, Engine Room exhibit, café, picnic area, shop, historic campsite, play area, and hike/trail routes throughout the island countryside.

There is standard on-street car parking available near to the Sandbanks Yacht Club.

The island offers toilet facilities with adaptations for disabled people, which can be found near to the café, near to the main Visitor Centre, and behind the campsite Visitor Centre.

The Engine Room and second-hand bookshop have step-free level access into and throughout. The café offers step-free level access into and throughout via use of the exit point as an entrance. The island countryside hike/trail routes offer step-free level access into them and through some areas. Other points of interest are accessed via ramps/slopes or steps.

Routes around the property have ramps/slopes and uneven gravel and natural surfaces, so an accessible shuttle is available to transport visitors to some main areas and provide island tours. Manual wheelchairs and mountain trikes can be borrowed from the main Visitor Centre, and sensory packs are also available. The National Trust recommends booking these items in advance.

Please view our Detailed Access Guides below to find out further details, including measurements and photographs.
