Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • There are charges to borrow a tramper.
  • The tramper can be borrowed from Visitor Welcome and is run by Countryside Mobility.
    You can get a yearly membership for £10. Members can hire for free.
    There is an option for a two week taster membership for £2.50.

Route to (the Elizabethan Garden)

  • Exit the Visitor Welcome and follow the paved path to the right.
    Follow the tarmac path to the left. Turn right at the gateway.
    Follow the path around to the right and take the next right down a slope.
    The entrance to the Elizabethan Garden will be to the right of the Great Barn.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, cobbles and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

    For the route to the accessible lower entrance exit the Visitor Welcome and follow the paved path to the right.
    Follow the tarmac path to the left. Turn right at the open gateway.
    Follow the path around to the right and go through the open gates with pillars.
    Follow the path until you reach the accessible lower entrance.
    The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.

    There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The access points to the area are located next to the Abbey or next to the Great Barn.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas .
  • There are steps up to the higher part of the garden. The higher part of the garden is more accessible via the Great Barn entrance where there is one step.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
