About Calke Abbey - National Trust

    Accessibility Overview

Located south of Derby, Calke Abbey features a Visitor Reception, restaurant, food kiosk, café, picnic areas, shops, House, tunnels, church, Calke Explore outdoor recreation area, Walled Garden, and parkland with hike/trail routes and playground.

There are two car parks on the estate, with designated bays for Blue Badge holders near to the Visitor Reception, and the Calke Explore food kiosk.

The estate offers toilet facilities with adaptations for disabled people, which can be found near to the Calke Explore food kiosk, near to the Stableyard Café, and in the Walled Garden. A Changing Places Facility is also available near to the Calke Explore kiosk.

The Stableyard café, Calke Explore food kiosk, and picnic areas, have step-free level access into and throughout. The restaurant, House, Walled Garden, and parkland, offer step-free level access into them and through some areas. Other points of interest are accessed via ramps/slopes or steps.

Some main routes around the property have steep ramps/slopes and cover some distance, so an accessible shuttle is available to take visitors to some areas. Manual wheelchairs and trampers can also be borrowed from the Visitor Reception, and manual wheelchairs and walking sticks are available to borrow for the house tour. The National Trust recommends booking these items in advance.
