Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- Equipment cannot be borrowed or hired.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and soft toy.
- You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Outdoor Spaces (Coastline)
- This information is for the access point located through visitor reception.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The width of the gap is 122cm.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac and bonded gravel.
- Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no step-free level access around the area.
- There are steep ramps/slopes with handrails, slight ramps/slopes without handrails, steep ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps with handrails in the main areas.
- The slight and steep slopes are located throughout.
There is a steep ramp with handrails on both sides to access the telescope platform.
There are two flights of steps along the route to the rope bridge. - There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
Hikes and Trails (Rope Bridge)
- The walk is approximately 0.6 miles long.
- From visitor reception, follow the path along the clifftops.
Initial slopes are slight with some steep areas, until the viewing point with telescopes just under the halfway point.
After this viewing point, there are steeper slopes and two long sets of steps.
To mount the rope bridge, descend a third, very steep set of steps. - The hike is not open 24 hours.
- None of the paths are lit at night.
- The route includes the following surfaces: tarmac, block paving, compacted gravel and wood.
- Some of the route contains steep gradients and steps.
- These are found in the following areas: the second half of the walk, beyond the telescope viewing point.
- There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
- The route is clearly signposted.
- The route has information boards without maps.
- Seating is available on the route.
- There are no toilet facilities along the route.
Outdoor Spaces (Carrick-a-Rede Island)
- This information is for the access point located at the end of the clifftop walk from visitor reception.
- Access into the area is via steps.
- There are 10+ steps, which are unmarked, with handrails on both sides.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: open countryside.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, bonded gravel, compact earth and wood.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no step-free level access around the area.
- There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps with handrails in the main areas.
- There are steps immediately beyond the rope bridge.
After this, the path is steeply sloped.
To reach the top of the island, there is a steep climb up uneven rocks. - There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
