Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a side by side bike, a VeloPlus wheelchair platform bike, cycles and a running buggy. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders.
  • You can borrow these from the Cycle Hire. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • There are charges to borrow the side by side bikes, VeloPlus wheelchair platform bikes, cycles and running buggies.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: mobility scooters and trampers. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to the Turning Yard Café

  • The café is located in the Turning Yard.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are concrete.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the left hand side of the Turning Yard, opposite the Changing Places facility.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a single manual door (with an extension leaf) which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 92cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: handheld menus and written wall menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery and a portable card machine for payment.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • There is a counter over 85cm high with a tray rail.
  • There is not a section of the counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the seating area.
  • There are high tables, high stools and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests available in the seating area.

  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • Additional seating which does not have step-free level access is located at the right hand side of the café overlooking the Pleasure Grounds.

Stairs

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are G and 1.
  • There are 15 steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked with handrails on both sides.
  • The stairs give access to the standard toilets and baby changing facilities on the first floor.

Standard Toilet (Turning Yard Café First Floor)

  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 76cm.
  • The female toilet was surveyed.
  • There is also a male toilet in the same location.
  • There is an ambulant cubicle available with vertical grab rails on both sides and horizontal grab rails on both sides.
  • The wash basin tap type is push.
  • There are hand dryers.

Parent and Baby Room / Baby Feeding Room (Turning Yard Café First Floor)

  • There is step-free level access into the room.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 76cm.
  • The wash basin tap type is push.
  • There is no seating available in the room.
  • Waste bins include: a nappy bin and a general waste bin with lid.

Exit

  • The exit is located at the front of the café, to the right of the entrance.
