Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a side by side bike, a running buggy, cycles and a VeloPlus wheelchair platform bike. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • There are charges to borrow the side by side bikes, VeloPlus wheelchair platform bikes, cycles and running buggies.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: trampers and mobility scooters. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (Turning Yard Café)

  • The café is in the Turning Yard, which is through the Laundry Yard.
    Use the pathway which runs alongside the car parks main access road and join the pathway from the drop-off point to reach the Laundry Yard.
    Follow the path to the right hand side of the Laundry Yard, and go through the gate.
    Cross the Turning Yard and the café is at the rear left of the area.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are concrete.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the right hand side of the Stables, in the Turning Yard.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 94cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: handheld menus and written wall menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery and a portable card machine for payment.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • There is a counter over 85cm high with a tray rail.
  • There is not a section of the counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the seating area.
  • There are a mixture of chairs with and without armrests, high stools, room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) and high tables available in the seating area.
  • The seating area does not have: a priority table.
  • Tables are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: some of the tables.
  • Some flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • Additional seating which does not have step-free level access is located at the right hand side of the café overlooking the Pleasure Grounds.
  • Some of the seating area has stepped access.

Stairs

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are G, 1.
  • There are 15 steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked with handrails on both sides.

Standard Toilet (Turning Yard Café First Floor)

  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 76cm.
  • The female toilet was surveyed.
  • There is also a male toilet in the same location.
  • There is an ambulant cubicle available with vertical grab rails on both sides and horizontal grab rails on both sides.
  • The wash basin tap type is push.
  • There are hand dryers.

Parent and Baby Room / Baby Feeding Room (Turning Yard Café First Floor)

  • There is step-free level access into the room.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 76cm.
  • The wash basin tap type is push.
  • There is no seating available in the room.
  • Waste bins include: a nappy bin and a general waste bin with lid.

Exit

  • The exit is located at the front of the café, to the right of the entrance.
