Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Route to (Walled Kitchen Garden)

  • The Walled Kitchen Garden in at the north side of the main visitor area of the park.
    From the car park use the access road to head away from the main visitor complex and pass the Cycle Hub.
    At the bend in the road proceed onto the pathway which leads to a gate and fields. Just before the gate there are 2 right hand pathways, take the second one which takes you onto a tree-lined avenue.
    Follow this to the end of the avenue and the entrance to the Walled Kitchen Garden is ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth and tarmac.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located at the end of the avenue to the north side of the main visitor area of the park.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: gravel and grass.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Entrance (The Vinery)

  • The entrance surveyed is located through the gate at the rear left of the Walled Kitchen Garden.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with a handrail on the right going down.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 80cm.

Attraction / Exhibit (The Vinery)

  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • Exhibit information includes the following formats: pictorial and information board.
  • The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are no seats in this area.
  • Flooring in the area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
  • Lighting levels are low in some areas.
  • Some of the rooms off the glasshouse are accessed by a step and have low lighting levels.

Toilet with Adaptations (Walled Kitchen Garden - Ambulant - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located in the toilet block on the left hand side of the Walled Kitchen Garden.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 130m from the Walled Kitchen Garden entrance.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 93cm.
  • The door has a locking handle.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 188cm x 239cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 120cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a push button flush on top of the cistern.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
  • The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder and wash basin.
  • The following fixtures cannot be reached from the toilet seat: soap dispenser.
