Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, magnifying glass, soft toy and torch.
  • You can borrow these from the visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (Garden)

  • Turn right when you leave the visitor reception exit, going passed the shop and café.
    Turn left after the café to the road leading to the house.
    At the road turn right down a long slope on the tarmac road towards the house.
    Before you get to the cobble driveway go right down a steep slope.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Route to (Accessible walk)

  • Turn right when you leave the visitor reception exit, going passed the shop and café.
    Turn left after the café to the road leading to the house.
    At the road turn right down a long slope on the tarmac road towards the house. Take the gravel path on the left before you reach the house.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located to the right of the house before you reach the cobble driveway.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: a grassed play area, woodland, formal gardens and gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, grass, gravel and bonded gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are more than 3 steps with handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • The steep slopes lead down to the sea and costal path (not National Trust).
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Hikes and Trails

  • The walk is approximately 500 metres to the far view point.
  • Turn right when you leave the visitor reception exit, going passed the shop and café.
    Turn left after the café to the road leading to the house.
    At the road turn right down a long slope on the tarmac road towards the house.
    Take the gravel path up a steep slope to your left.
    After approximately 300 metres there is a seat with view out to the sea.
    Carry on for approximately another 380 metres through open gates to view point.
    This route can be slippery if wet and has some protruding roots and steep slopes.
  • The hike is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: tarmac and gravel.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: on the main path.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is not clearly signposted.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
