Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, magnifying glass, soft toy and torch.
  • You can borrow these from the visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (Second Hand Book Shop)

  • Turn right when you leave the visitor reception exit, going passed the shop and café.
    Turn left after the café to the road leading to the house.
    At the road, turn right down a long slope on the tarmac road towards the house.
    Before you get to the cobble driveway go right down a steep slope.
    After approximately 40 metres turn right along a paving stone path to the shop on your right.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Shop

  • Access into the shop is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, permanently held open and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 88cm.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • All flooring in the shop is smooth and even.
  • There is step-free level access around the shop.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • The counter does not have a hearing assistance system.
  • You can pay for books by cash in the box in the shop or by card in the visitor reception.
