Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders and fidget toys.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

    All items are free to borrow but a donation is welcomed.

Route to (the RAF Defford Museum)

  • Exit the Visitor Reception exit, turn right then bear right and the RAF Defford Museum will be directly ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are concrete.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The steep ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 86cm.
  • There is a second manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 77cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.

Attraction / Exhibit

  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • There is background noise here.
  • Exhibit information includes the following formats: pictorial, information board, television/screen, audio description, audio guides and subtitles.
  • Some of the exhibits have clearly signed hearing assistance systems.
  • The hearing assistance systems were tested, however they were not working at the time of the survey.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are chairs without armrests available in the area.
  • All flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
