Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, binoculars, magnifying glass, soft toy, torch and accessible maps.
- You can borrow these from the visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a mobility scooter. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
Route to (House)
- Turn right out of the visitor reception exit up a slight slope and right again along the tarmac road to the house.
Take the path to the left towards the rear of the house.
When you reach the rear of the house turn right towards the book shop/Gallery café, with the house on your right.
At the entrance to the book shop/Gallery café turn right down a slope.
After approximately 45 metres the entrance to the house will be on your left. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, concrete, gravel and paving stones.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
- The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with handrails on both sides.
- There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 140cm.
Attraction / Exhibit
- The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- Exhibit information includes the following formats: pictorial and information board.
- The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- There are chairs without armrests available in the area.
- All flooring in the area is smooth and even.
- Some of the flooring has a very shiny finish, which could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.
- Lighting levels are low.
- At the time of the survey (November 2023) this room is only open Thursday to Saturday, from 11am to 3pm.
Toilet with Adaptations (Left Hand Transfer)
- This toilet is located to the left of the entrance to the house exhibit room.
- Access into the toilet is via a steep ramp/slope.
- The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with a handrail on the left going up.
- This toilet is approximately 42m from the entrance to the house exhibit room.
- There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 85cm.
- The door has a twist lock.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 150cm x 215cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat.
- The lateral transfer space is 89cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
- There is a lever flush on the transfer side.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
- There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
- The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder and wash basin.
- The following fixtures cannot be reached from the toilet seat: soap dispenser and hand dryer.
- The height of the toilet seat above floor level is 48cm.
- The height of the toilet roll holder is 119cm.
- The wash basin tap type is lever mixer.
- The height of the wash basin is 73cm.
- The height of the soap dispenser is 90cm.
