Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: fidget toys.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (Parkland)

  • With Visitor Reception behind you, turn left then right.
    Turn right again at the end of the path then go past the no parking area on your right.
    Go through the small wooded area and then you will reach a tarmac downhill path. This indicates the start of the parkland.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel and muddy.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located at the downhill path near the 'no parking' area.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The access points to the area are located on the main pathways.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The width of the gap is 169cm.
  • There are bollards at the access point which have a minimum width of 169cm and are 88cm high.
  • The bollards do not contrast visually with the tarmac.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: parkland, woodland and open countryside.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, gravel and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • Slopes are found in various place along the pathways in the open spaces.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • The paths have gates and kissing gates which may create obstacles for some users.

Hikes and Trails

  • The walk is approximately 1.5 miles.
  • Begin at the Dovedote near the car park and head down the main drive, past the 'no parking' area and cut through a small woodland.
    Go past the white gates and head down the steep tarmac hill around the west front of the house.
    Go through the wooden kissing gate then follow the footpath, continuing over a stone bridge and along through the parkland.
    Follow the footpath curving right and over a second stone bridge. Go through the kissing gate, turn left then go through another kissing gate.
    Continue through the woodland which runs parallel to the river Clywedog.
    Follow the narrow path through the woodland until you reach Felin Industrial Estate and follow the path round to the left.
    Go through the kissing gate and over the bridge on your left into the Felin Puleston Car Park.
    At the cottage turn left and through the kissing gate, continuing along the stone footpath to follow the course of the river Clywedog.
    Continue through 2 further kissing gates and re-join the original path by the stone bridge.
    Rejoin your original steps back to the dovecote.
  • The walk is open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: loose chippings and compacted gravel.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients.
  • These are found in the following areas: a short steep tarmac section at the start of the walk.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards with large maps and online maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
  • Some traffic and pedestrians may be encountered while passing through the Felin Puleston Car Park.
