Accessibility Overview
A World Heritage Site, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden feature a Visitor Centre, Ticket Office kiosk, Visitor Reception kiosk, restaurant, café, tearoom, picnic areas, shop, historic mill, Abbey, deer park, gardens, exhibition space, play area, and hikes/trails.
There are multiple car parks across the site, with designated parking for Blue Badge holders in the Westgate car park, and Car Park A.
The site offers toilet facilities with adaptations for disabled people, which can be found near to the Fountains Abbey Visitor Centre, and near to the Westgate car park.
The Visitor Centre, restaurant and picnic area, shop, and Swanley Grange exhibition space all have step-free level access into and throughout them. The children’s play area offers step-free level access into it and through some areas. Other points of interest are accessed via ramps/slopes or steps.
Some main routes around the site have uneven cobbled and gravel surfaces, and steep ramps/slopes, so an an accessible shuttle is available to take visitors to most features. A manual wheelchair can be borrowed from the Fountains Abbey Visitor Centre. Manual wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and trampers can be borrowed from the Ticket Office kiosk at Westgate. Sensory packs are also available from both facilities. The National Trust recommends booking these items in advance.
