Equipment and Resources to Borrow (Westgate)

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, sunglasses, soft toy and accessible maps.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: trampers and mobility scooters. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (Studley Royal Tea Room)

  • From the Studley Royal car park proceed along the footpath down the hill towards the access point for Studley Royal Water Garden.
    The entrance to the tea room is to the left hand side of access point.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and cobbles.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.
  • The visitor shuttle is available on demand from the Visitor Centre and Westgate.

Toilet with Adaptations (Studley Royal Tea Room - Ambulant - Left Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located to the right hand side of the tea room building.
  • Access into the toilet is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • This toilet is approximately 15m from the tea room entrance.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 86cm.
  • The door has a sliding bolt lock.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 192cm x 183cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat.
  • The lateral transfer space is 84cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a push button flush on top of the cistern.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side and a vertical rail on the left side of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
  • The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder.

  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass and gravel.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The slight ramp is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 69cm.
  • There is a second set of manual doors (with one door locked) which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 69cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a tea room which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: written wall menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, easy grip cutlery, a portable card machine for payment and large-handled mugs.

  • The height of the baby change table is 90cm.

  • There is a chair with armrests available in the room.
