Equipment and Resources to Borrow (Westgate)

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow (Visitor Centre)

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • The wheelchair is only available for use around the visitor area.
    All electric scooters and tramplers are loaned from the Westgate reception.
    An accessible shuttle can be used to transport visitors to certain areas.

Route to (the Trails)

  • All trails start from the exit doors in the visitor centre.
    The trails lead down to the Abbey.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Hikes and Trails (Visitor Centre - Abbey)

  • The hike is approximately 0.5 miles long.
  • The route takes you from the visitor centre down to the Abbey.
    The route passes the children's play area, Swanley Grange and the Porters Lodge tour meeting point.
  • The walk is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: tarmac.
  • Some of the route contains steps.
  • These are found in the following areas: on the pathways leading down to the Abbey.
  • There are alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has handheld maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.

Outdoor Spaces (Children's Play Area)

  • This information is for the access point located off the footpath along the route.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: a playground with play equipment.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: loose chippings, wood bark and uncompacted earth.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.

  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
