Equipment and Resources to Borrow (Visitor Centre)

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, sunglasses, activity sheets and soft toy.
  • You can borrow these from the visitor centre. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • The wheelchair is only available for use around the visitor area.
    All electric scooters and tramplers are loaned from the Westgate reception.
    An accessible shuttle can be used to transport visitors to certain areas.

Route to (the Visitor Centre Restaurant)

  • The restaurant is located in the right hand corner of the visitor centre courtyard.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are cobbles, paving stones and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.
  • The shuttle is available on demand from Westgate Car Park and Studley Royal Car Park.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building in the visitor centre courtyard.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There are double automatic doors which open away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 140cm.
  • There is a second set of automatic doors which open away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 150cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a restaurant which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: written wall menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery, a portable card machine for payment and large-handled mugs.
  • Lighting levels are varied.
  • There may be background noise here.
  • There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There is a counter over 85cm high with a tray rail.
  • The counter is 90cm high.
  • There is not a section of the counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • There is step-free level access around the seating area.
  • There are tables, long tables, bench seats, high stools and chairs without armrests available in the seating area.
  • The seating area does not have: a priority table and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests.
  • Tables are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The surface height of the tables is 74cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: some of the chairs and some of the tables.
  • All flooring in the area is smooth and even.

Parent and Baby Room / Baby Feeding Room

  • There is step-free level access into the room.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 88cm.
  • Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
  • The height of the baby change table is 90cm.
  • The wash basin tap type is sensor.
  • There is a chair with armrests available in the room.
  • There is a toilet in the parent and baby room.
  • Waste bins include: a nappy bin.

Exit (to Outdoor Seating)

  • The exit is located at the rear of the restaurant.
  • There is step-free level access at the exit.
  • There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which open away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 75cm.

Picnic Area

  • The following information describes the picnic area located to the rear of the restaurant.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There are tables, high tables, long tables and bench seats.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 72cm.
  • The surface height of the lowest table is 72cm.
  • The surface height of the highest table is 75cm.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • Some of the surface in the picnic area in the area is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles and grass.
