    About Gibside - National Trust

    Accessibility Overview

Situated close to Newcastle upon Tyne, Gibside features a Visitor Reception, second-hand bookshop, food and drink facilities, picnic areas, historical buildings, gardens, parkland with hike/trail routes, and play area.

There is car parking on the estate, with designated bays for Blue Badge holders near to the Visitor Reception.

The estate offers toilet facilities with adaptations for disabled people, which can be found in the Market Place, in the Stables Coffee Shop, and in the Red Kite Adventure Play Area.

Gibside Pizza Pit, the Market Place Café, and The Stables exhibit all have step-free level access into and throughout, and the Chapel has a stairclimber to overcome the entrance stairs. The Walled Garden and parklands offer step-free level access into them and through some areas. Other points of interest are accessed via ramps/slopes or steps.

Main routes around the property have ramps/slopes and cover some distance, so an accessible shuttle is available to take visitors to some main areas, and a manual wheelchair and a tramper can be borrowed from the Visitor Reception. The National Trust recommends booking these items in advance.

    Sensory packs are also available.

Please view our Detailed Access Guides below to find out further details, including measurements and photographs.
