Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: fidget toys.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (Clive Museum)

  • With the Blue Badge parking behind you, proceed up the hill towards the castle.
    Go through the entrance into the courtyard, immediately turn left, then right and the entrance to the Clive Museum is the second door along on the left hand wall.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and cobbles.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located on the left-hand side of the courtyard.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There is a single manual door which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 131cm.
  • There is a second set of manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 114cm.
  • There are 10+ steps beyond the entrance, which are unmarked, with a handrail on the left going up.
  • The stairs are located between the first and second doors. The highest step is 19cm high.

Attraction / Exhibit

  • The majority of walkway widths are over 180cm.
  • There is background noise which varies, depending on the time of day.
  • Exhibit information includes the following formats: information board.
  • The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are stools and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests available in the area.
  • Some flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • Some of the flooring has a very shiny finish, which could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.
  • Lighting levels are varied.
  • There is a door that separates the two sections of the museum from each other. The door is permanently held open and is 79cm wide.
