Route to (the Garden)

  • Follow the path down to the right of the Visitor Reception and then turn right to pass the toilets.
    Follow the path with the Serpentine Lake and Sham Bridge to the right.
    Continue following the path until you leave the tree canopy and arrive with open views to the left.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel, muddy and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
  • The section of the path by the Serpentine Lake has no barriers between the lake and the path.

Outdoor Spaces

Hikes and Trails

  • The walk is approximately 230 metres from the Visitor Reception to the viewpoint, where wheelchair users will have to return to the Visitor Reception.
  • Go to the right of the Visitor Reception down a steep slope, and then to the right.
    Continue past the toilets, and follow the path with the Serpentine Lake and the Sham Bridge to the right, arriving into open views to the left.
    Wheelchair users will need to turn around and follow the path back to the Visitor Reception due to very steep slopes beyond this area.
  • The walk is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: gravel and compacted gravel.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients.
  • These are found in the following areas: after the viewpoint.
  • There are alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is not clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards with large maps and online maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are standard and accessible toilet facilities along the route.
  • The section of the path by the Serpentine Lake has no barriers between the lake and the path.
    The path can be slippery when wet.

Exit

  • The exit is located to the right of the toilets by the lower dam.
  • There is step-free access via slope at the exit.
  • The slight slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is a single manual gate which opens towards you.

  • Wheelchair users should return to the Visitor Reception once they reach the viewpoint.

Toilet with Adaptations (Garden - Ambulant - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located to the right hand side of the lower dam, as you look from the Palladian Bridge.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 31m from the exit.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 79cm.
  • The door has a twist lock.
  • Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 150cm x 246cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 89cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a lever flush on the transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side and a vertical rail on the right side of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
