Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a mountain trike and manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, binoculars, magnifying glass, activity sheets, soft toy, torch, communication cards and accessible maps.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper and mobility scooters. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Learning Centre)

  • The Learning Centre is located on a path past the Information Kiosk, to the right of the shop.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance (Rear)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the rear of the building.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The slight ramp is over 150cm wide, with a handrail on the right going up.
  • Features at a suitable height for a wheelchair user include: the key hole.
  • There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 84cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm

Entrance (Front)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There is 1 step, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • All of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • Features at a suitable height for a wheelchair user include: the key hole.
  • There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 70cm.

Activity (Learning Centre)

  • The activity is internal.
  • The activity is staffed for the duration.
  • The activity does not have a hearing assistance system.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • All flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • The majority of the flooring has a very shiny finish, which could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.
  • There are tables and chairs without armrests available in the activity area.

Toilet with Adaptations (Learning Centre - Accessible - Left Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located at the side of the learning centre, to the left of the rear entrance.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 5m from the rear entrance.
  • There is no signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 85cm.
  • The door has a hook lock.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 190cm x 217cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 121cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
  • The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder.
