Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (the Summerhouse Garden and Tea Garden)

  • Follow the pathway from visitor reception at the car park. The path goes through the summerhouse garden and the tea garden.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, gravel and muddy.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.
  • Due to ongoing ground works at the time of survey (November 2023), the shuttle was not operating between the house and the car park. It is recommended to contact the property in advance to make an alternative arrangement.

Entrance (Summerhouse)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the summerhouse.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There is 1 step, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • The step is not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 85cm.

Attraction / Exhibit (Summerhouse)

  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • Exhibit information includes the following formats: information board.
  • The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are bench seats available in the area.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs.
  • Flooring in the area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.

Outdoor Spaces

  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • The access points to the area are located at the east and west ends of the gardens. Both entrances are off the main path from visitor reception to the house.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens.
  • The outdoor facilities also include: a historic summerhouse building.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.

  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • There are slight slopes off the main pathway through the gardens.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
