Access Guide
Introduction
- The following information describes the route from the Sutherland Building to the Design Building (CCE2).
- The approximate distance of this route is 482m.
- The route takes approximately 7 minutes.
- The route leads along Northumberland Road, across the A167(M), and through City Campus East to the Design Building (CCE2).
- The majority of paths along the route are tarmac with some easy gradients in places.
- There is some street signage located along the route directing you to City Campus East and the Design Building (CCE2).
- There is campus parking on the Coach Lane and City campuses.
- The potential hazards on this route include; quiet roads, and shared pathways.
Sutherland Building
- There is ramped access to the Sutherland Building.
- Accessible toilets are available throughout the Sutherland Building.
- There is step free access throughout the majority of the Sutherland Building.
- Car parking facilities are available at the rear of the Sutherland Building.

Sutherland Building to A167(M)
- As you exit the accessible entrance of the Sutherland Building turn right onto Northumberland Road.
- Continue along Northumberland Road for approximately 80m.
- Northumberland Road is pedestrianised.
- The surface along the pedestrian street is block paved.
- Tactile paving is located along Northumberland Road designating the university boundary buildings adjacent to the street.
- Seating is available along this part of the route.
- There is step free access along this part of the route.
- At the end of Northumberland Road take the path to the right.
- The path changes from block paving to tarmac and has a slight downhill slope.
- Ahead is a zebra crossing.
- The zebra crossing has tactile paving at both sides, but no beacons.
- Caution is advised when crossing because of traffic.
- The traffic is moving from both directions.
- This road is quiet.
- Cross at the zebra crossing and turn right onto the path at the other side.
- This path is tarmac and over 150cm in width.
- There is a slight uphill slope on this path.
- Follow the path for approximately 60m and to the left is the A167(M) link bridge.
- Turn left onto the link bridge.
A176(M) to Design Building (CCE2)
- There are bollards at the entrance to the bridge across the A167(M).
- Use the road to cross the motorway and access City Campus East.
- The bridge is a shared footpath.
- There are some uneven surfaces along the bridge.
- The uneven surfaces can be avoided by using the left hand side of the bridge.
- The bridge has an easy gradient uphill and then downhill.
- There are handrails on both sides of the bridge.
- After approximately 90m the bridge crosses the railway line and the handrails are on the left only.
- Continue along the bridge for approximately 68m to the bottom of the bridge.
- At the bottom of the bridge City Campus East is on your right.
- Turn right at the bottom of the bridge.
- There are bollards to access the campus from the footpath.
- The minimum width between the bollards is 144cm.
- Cross the entrance to the Business and Law Building car park.
- There is level access across the car park entrance.
- The car park entrance is quiet.
- There are bollards immediately beyond the car park entrance.
- The minimum width between the bollards is 157cm.
- The path continues between the Business and Law Building (CCE1) on the right and the Design Building (CCE2) on the left, in to the City Campus East Quad.
- The surface of the quad is block paved to the left and tarmac to the left.
- There is seating in the quad.
- Continue through the quad for approximately 102m.
- The entrance to the Design Building (CCE2) is on the left.
Design Building (CCE2)
- There is step free access to the Design Building (CCE2).
- Accessible toilets are available throughout the Design Building (CCE2).
- There is step free access throughout the Design Building (CCE2).
- Car parking facilities are available throughout City Campus East.
