Overview

  • About View
    • Innerpeffray Library was the first lending library in Scotland and remains open as an attraction, along with St Mary's Chapel which is also on the site.
    • Facilities available in the venue include: historical library and artefacts, refreshments, event and meeting spaces.

    • There is stepped access at the most accessible entrance.
    • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
    • The first floor library can be accessed via stairs.
    • The following facilities are available: a seat/chair, a hearing assistance system, a manual wheelchair and a water bowl for assistance dogs.
    • Additional equipment which can be borrowed or hired includes: There is a hearing loop in the school room.
    • The venue can provide large print documents, documents in different languages and virtual tours.
    • Additional facilities/services include: phone charging points and Wi-Fi.
    • Staff receive the following training: Dementia Friendly Training and Inclusion Training.
    • Tactile / touch tours are available on request.

Parking

Access To (Lower Floor Library, Shop and Ticketing)

  • The library shop and ticket counter are ahead and then to the right from the car park.
  • The journey time from the car park is approximately 8 minutes.
  • The most accessible route has ramps or slopes and uneven surfaces.
  • There is step-free access via a portable ramp into the lower floor library, shop and ticketing.
  • There is 1 step which is unmarked with no handrails.
  • The portable wooden ramp can be requested upon arrival.
  • There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 93cm.
  • There is a second single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 87cm.

Shop (with Ticketing and Lower Floor Library)

    • There is step-free level access throughout all areas.

    • Seating available includes: stools, chairs without armrests, armchairs and chairs with armrests.
  • Payment View
    • The checkout area is located straight ahead after entering.
    • There is step-free level access to the checkout area.
    • The venue has a payment counter.
    • The height of the payment counter is 73cm.
    • There is not a lowered section at the counter.
    • There is not a hearing assistance system.

Stairs (Upper Floor Library)

  • The stairs surveyed are located to the left just before the main entrance door.
  • There is a single manual door to access the stairwell.
  • The ground and first floors can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 16 steps between floors which are unmarked and have a handrail on the left going up.

Entrance (Upper Floor Library)

  • This entrance is located at the top of the staircase.

  • The door opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 102cm.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.

Exhibition Space (Upper Floor Library)

  • All exhibits are indoors.
  • There is step-free level access throughout all areas.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
  • There is no (or very little) background noise.
  • Display information includes: tactile, pictorial, information boards and interactive exhibits at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.

  • There are shows/talks with designated seating for wheelchair users.

  • There is background noise in this area which varies depending on the function/event .

Access To (St Mary’s Chapel)

  • St Mary's Chapel is located straight ahead from the car park and through the chapel yard.
  • The journey time from the car park is approximately 5 minutes.
  • The most accessible route has ramps or slopes, a step and uneven surfaces.
  • There is stepped access into the chapel.
  • There are 3 steps which are unmarked with no handrails.
  • There is one step up of 5cm and two steps down into the chapel.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently held open.
  • The width of the opening is 104cm.

Toilet with Adaptations (Lower Floor Library)

  • Location and Access View
    • The toilet surveyed is located next to the lower floor library.
    • The most accessible route to the toilet has ramps or slopes.
    • There is step-free access via a portable ramp into the facility.
    • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide with no handrails.
    • The door opens inwards.
    • The width of the door opening is 85cm.
    • The door has a lever twist lock.
  • Dimensions and Features View
    • There is not room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is not a lateral transfer space next to the toilet.
    • There is a spatula flush on the right as you face the toilet.
    • There is no horizontal grab rail for the toilet.
    • There are vertical grab rails on both sides of the toilet.
    • There is a dropdown rail on the right as you face the toilet.
    • The toilet seat is 45cm from the floor.
    • There is a wall mounted toilet roll holder, a wash basin and a wall mounted towel dispenser available.
    • The wash basin has a lever tap.
    • The vertical grab rail is on the left as you face the wash basin.
    • There is a pull cord emergency alarm, however it is not within 10cm from the floor.
    • The cubicle has a sanitary bin.

Toilet with Adaptations (School Room)

    • The toilet surveyed is located in the School Room.
    • The most accessible route to the toilet has step-free level access and manual doors.
    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
    • The door opens by sliding.
    • The width of the door opening is 78cm.
    • The door has a lever twist lock.
  • Dimensions and Features View
    • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is a lateral transfer space to the left as you face the toilet.
    • The lateral transfer space is 95cm (from the side of the toilet pan to the wall).
