Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the Mile End Road entrance located on Mile End Road is step-free and level (via very easy slopes).
  • The approach to the Westfield Way entrance located on Westfield Way is step-free and level (via very easy slopes).
  • The approach to the rear entrance, located between the School of Business and Management and the Novo Cemetery is step-free via steep slopes.
  • Arts One has three entrances. All three entrances provide step-free access to the ground floor of the building, via steep ramps or slopes. There is a single set of double automatic doors (with one leaf locked) at the Mile End Road entrance.
  • There are two sets of double manual doors at the Westfield Way entrance.
  • There is a single push-pad activated automatic door at the rear entrance, with alternative access via a single set of double manual doors.
  • The Mile End Road entrance and rear entrance are signed as "Arts One".
  • The Westfield Way entrance is unsigned.
  • The Mile End Road entrance provides step-free access (via a steep ramp, which bypasses the steps) to the main foyer on the ground floor of the building.
  • The Westfield Way entrance, located on Westfield Way, has step-free access via a steep slope.
  • The rear entrance, located to the rear of the building between the School of Business and Management and the Novo Cemetery, has step-free access via a steep ramp.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of the building on all floors, and to all floors, via lift.
  • On the ground floor, there is a steep slope, with a handrail on the left going up, to access G03 Post-production Suite, G04 Production Studio, and the Cinema and Gallery from the main foyer area.
  • Floor surfaces along circulation routes are predominantly comprised of shiny tiles and low-pile carpet, with a small area of deep-pile carpet in the corridor leading to G03 Post-production Suite, G04 Production Studio, and the Cinema and Gallery on the ground floor. Some carpet in the corridors on the second and third floors has a patterned finish.
  • There are resting areas in circulation and lobby areas throughout the building, with a mixture of seating.
  • Wall-mounted and overhead wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
  • There are manual doors along circulation routes throughout the building.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • Toilet Facilities View
    • There are 2 toilets with adaptations.
    • Toilets with adaptations are located on the ground floor, to the left as you enter the building through the Mile End Road entrance, and on the first floor, to the left and left again as you exit the lift.
    • All toilets with adaptations have a left hand transfer space.
    • The male and female step-free standard toilet facilities are located on the ground floor, to the left as you enter the building through the Mile End Road entrance, and also ahead and then along the corridor to the rear right of the atrium as you enter the building through the Mile End Road entrance, and then on the first, second and third floors, to the right as you exit the lift.

Parking (Westfield Way)

    • The nearest site/campus car park is located off Westfield Way; however, due to ongoing construction work, it was out of bounds at the time of survey (March 2026).

Entrance (Mile End Road Entrance)

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building, on Mile End Road.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is ramped and stepped access at the entrance.
  • The ramp has a steep gradient.
  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide with a handrail on the left going up.
  • The ramp bypasses the steps.
  • There are 2 steps with no handrails.
  • The steps are unmarked.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 15cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 102cm.
  • There are double automatic doors at this entrance, however one door is locked.
  • The doors open towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 92cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.
  • The doors have a high visual contrast.
  • There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 102cm.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.

Reception (School of the Arts)

  • The reception is located ahead and on the left as you enter the building through the Mile End Road entrance.
  • The distance from the Mile End Road entrance is 13m.
  • There is step-free level access to reception.
  • The height of the reception desk is 110cm.
  • There is a lowered section at the desk.
  • The height of the lowered section is 76cm.
  • The reception has a television.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
