Introduction (Ascot Streetscape (Railway Station and High Street to Ascot Racecourse Route))

  • Services / facilities within the grounds include This guide is based in Ascot. This guide covers the main shopping area of Ascot and covers some independent shops and mainstream shops along with the train station and Ascot Racecourse reception. This guide runs from the railway station along the High Street and to the racecourse. The route is approximately 0.5 miles (720 metres) and 20 minutes to walk however, this is just a guide. The route has some slight and steep slopes along the route. Pathway surfaces are concrete paving slabs and block paving. The pathways have some uneven sections, which include some raised manhole covers. The road surfaces are tarmac, with dropped kerbs and tactile paving at most crossing points. There are opportunities to sit and rest.

Getting Here

  • By Car:
  • The M3 Junction 3 is approximately 4.7 miles from Ascot Railway Station on the south side of the route via Station Hill A330, Brockenhurst Road A330, Bagshot Road B3020, Sunninghill Road B3020, London Road A30, School Road B386 and New Road.
  • Parking:
  • There is limited on-street Blue Badge and standard parking along the High Street and side roads.
  • Several public car parks are also available, including Ascot Racecourse Car Park 3.
  • By Bus:
  • There are several bus stops along most of the route with direct services available to Windsor Town Centre, Ascot South, North Ascot, Brookside and Cranbourne stops.

  • By Train:
  • Ascot Railway Station is located off Station Hill on the southern edge of the route.
  • There is step-free access to all platforms at this station via long/steep ramps.
  • There are direct train services available to London Waterloo, Reading and Aldershot.

Parking

  • On Street Parking
  • There are limited Blue Badge and standard on street parking bays on surrounding side roads such as the High Street, Station Hill and other side roads.
  • There is no charge for these parking bays.
  • Parking is limited to between 60minutes for non-Blue Badge holders depending on the parking area.
  • Blue Badge holders may park in any of the bays for a maximum of 2 hours.

Ascot Railway Station to Station Hill A330

  • The road is a one-way Road that runs in a loop (circle pattern).
  • The surface of the road at all crossings is tarmac.
  • The pathways on both sides of the road in this section are formed of concrete tiles/block paving.
  • The pathways on both sides are wide.
  • There is a slight uphill slope running from Ascot Railway Station towards Station Hill A330.
  • There are some uneven areas on the pathways throughout this section.
  • There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as, railings, cycle racks, bins and signboards.
  • There are bollards outside the station 95cm high with a width of 87cm between them.

Junction – Ascot Railway Station Approach and Station Hill A330

  • There is a crossing at this junction on the approach to the station.
  • The crossing has dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides.
  • The surface of the road at the crossing is tarmac.
  • The surface of the pathway is block paving and concrete at the crossing.
  • There is a steep slope uphill leading from the railway station approach into Station Hill from right to left as you exit.
  • The surface of the road is tarmac at the crossing.
  • This is a two-way road.

Ascot Railway Station Approach to High Street A329 via Station Hill A330

  • The road is a two-way road.
  • The surface of the road at all crossings is tarmac.
  • The pathway is mainly on the left side as you exit the railway station heading towards the High Street.
  • The pathways are 220cm wide.
  • There is a steep uphill slope leading from the railway station approach towards the High Street.
  • There are some uneven areas on the pathways throughout this section.
  • There are several driveways to cross along the route.
  • Some have both dropped kerbs and tactile paving.
  • There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as railings, cycle racks, bins and signboards.
  • There are public toilets available as you approach the High Street along this route.
  • There is a section of narrow pathway rising to the junction from the fire station, approximately 115cm in length.

Junction – Station Hill A330 and High Street A329

  • There are several crossings at this junction to cross Station Hill A330 and High Street A329.
  • The crossings have dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides.
  • The surface of the road at all crossings is tarmac.
  • The surface of the pathways are block paving and concrete.
  • There is a steep slope downhill leading from High Street A329 onto Station Hill A330.
  • There is a slight slope downhill leading along High Street A329 from left to right as you exit Station Hill A330.
  • The surface of the road is tarmac at all crossings.
  • The roads at this junction are very busy.

Station Hill A330 to Winkfield Road A330 via High Street A329

  • The footpath is formed of concrete tiles and block paving.
  • The footpath is wide.
  • There is a slight slope running downhill from Station Hill A330 towards Winkfield Road A330.
  • There are several side streets and junctions to cross which have dropped kerbs and tactile paving.
  • There are some obstructions along the footpath on both sides, such as shop seating, bins and signboards.
  • There are several areas along this section with bench seating.
  • There are bus stops available.

Station Hill A330 to Ascot Racecourse Reception via High Street A329

  • The footpath is formed of tarmac.
  • Some of the footpath is uneven.
  • The footpath is wide.
  • There is a slight uphill slope running from Station Hill A330 towards Ascot Racecourse.
  • There are a number of junctions to cross which have dropped kerbs or tactile paving.
  • There are some obstructions along the footpath on both sides including bins and bus stops.
  • There is bench seating along the route.
  • There are bus stops available along this stretch of the route.
  • There is a pedestrian crossing available opposite Ascot Durning Library.
  • This pedestrian crossing has dropped kerbs, tactile paving and a lower rotating cone to assist crossing.
