Entrance (Ground Floor External Entrance)

  • This entrance is located on the ground floor of the visitor centre.
  • The entrance area is not clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.

  • There is a single manual door at this entrance.
  • The door has a locked extension leaf.
  • The locked extension leaf can be opened on request.
  • The door opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 109cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.
  • The door has a low visual contrast.
  • There is also an identical entrance leading to the outdoor seating on the opposite side of the café. There are patio doors which open out onto the outdoor seating area depending on the weather.

Eating and Drinking (The Café)

  • Location and Access View
    • The café is located on the ground floor to the right after exiting the lift.
    • The most accessible route has step-free level access, a lift and narrow walkways.
    • There is step-free level access into this area.
    • The width of the opening is 110cm.
  • Service View
    • This area has a counter where food and drink can be ordered and colleagues who can provide assistance with ordering.
    • Full table service is not available.
    • Menus are wall-mounted and digital.
    • The following dietary requirements can be catered for: gluten free, dairy free, lactose free, vegetarian and vegan.
    • The following are available: drinking straws, takeaway cups and takeaway cutlery.
    • There is a clearly signed fixed hearing assistance system.
    • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • Order and Payment View
    • The payment counter was surveyed.
    • The counter is located at the left hand side of the café.
    • There is step-free level access to the counter.
    • The height of the counter is 91cm.
    • There is not a lowered section at the counter.
  • Seating Area View
    • There is step-free level access throughout the seating area.
    • There is some room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
