Jetty - Guernsey

  • The Jetty is located at the end of Saint Julian's Pier 2, just before the Harbour Terminal and just after the Public Parking Area.
  • The Jetty consists of concrete and is over 150cm wide.
  • The top of the Jetty is level.
  • There is bench seating along the Jetty.
  • The bench seating does not have armrests.
  • There is a ramp to enter the Ferry Loading Area at the beginning of the Jetty on the right.
  • The ramp is 126cm wide.
  • The ramp has a handrail on each side.
  • The ramp is connected to the loading pontoon.
  • The loading pontoon floats and the height will vary with the rising and ebbing tide.
  • The gradient of the ramp will also vary with the rising and ebbing tide.
  • The ramp is long and does not have resting points.
  • The floating pontoon is over 150cm wide.
  • The floating pontoon has a non slip floor.
  • There are joining areas that connect the pontoons together.
  • The joining areas create a steep slope.
  • Both the ramp and floating pontoon move with the sea currents and can have sharp movements in all directions, especially in bad weather.
  • The ramp and floating pontoon creak with the moving sea currents.
  • The sound may be unnerving for some and may cause hearing problems.
  • There are 3 lifebelts situated at varying locations along the floating pontoon.

Jetty - Herm

  • The Herm Island Ferry can leave from several points along the Jetty, depending on the tide.
  • The Jetty is over 150cm wide all the way along.
  • There is a slight lip at the beginning of the Jetty.
  • The Jetty begins as sand and gravel.
  • The Jetty then becomes gravel.
  • The Jetty then becomes cobbled.
  • The cobbles are large stones and are very uneven.
  • There is a steep slope along the cobbled part of the Jetty.
  • Access to the Ferry at high tide is from the end of the Jetty.
  • Access at low tide is from the steps at the front right of the Jetty.
  • The steps are deep. There is a handrail at the steps.
  • The handrail is on the left (going up).
  • The steps are clearly marked.
  • The amount of steps depends upon the tide.
