Access Guide
Introduction
- Services / facilities within the grounds include This guide is based in Felixstowe, Suffolk and is a route along the promenade from outside the Town Hall, heading south passing the Felixstowe Pier and ending at Seashore Village Public Toilets next to Felixstowe Fitness Park.
This guide covers the walkways along the seafront.
The route is roughly 0.3 miles (483 metres) and would take approximately 8 to 10 minutes to walk on average.
There are some slight and steep slopes along the route.
Pathway surfaces are mainly concrete, block paving and tarmac and some pathways are uneven in sections.
There are some raised manhole covers along the pathways.
There are opportunities to sit and rest throughout.
There are several car parks and nearby attractions along the route.
Getting Here
- By Car
- The A14 Port of Felixstowe Road/Dock Gate 1 Roundabout is approximately 1.3 miles away from the Town Hall/Promenade (north end). This is via the A154 Walton Avenue, Beach Station Road, Sea Road and Undercliffe Road West.
- Parking
- There is limited street Blue Badge parking and standard parking available on surrounding side roads including A154 Walton Avenue, Beach Station Road, Sea Road and Undercliffe Road West. There are several public car parks available along the route also.
- By Bus
- There are several bus stops along some of the route on Undercliffe Road West with direct links to Ipswich, Felixstowe and Felixstowe Docks.

- By Train
- Felixstowe Station is located on Railway Approach, approximately 0.8 miles from the Town Hall/Promenade.
- There is step-free access to all platforms at this station via lift.
- There are direct train services available to Ipswich, Trimley St Martin and Derby Road.

Parking
- On Street Parking
- There are limited Blue Badge and standard on street parking bays on surrounding side roads such as Sea Road and Undercliffe Road West.
- There is no charge for these parking bays.
- Parking is limited to between 60 minutes for non-Blue Badge holders depending on the parking area.
- Blue Badge holders may park in any of the bays for a maximum of 2 hours.

- Leisure Centre Car Park
- This is a pay and display car park.
- Convalescent Hill Car Park
- This is a pay and display car park.
Junction – Beach Information Hut/Town Hall and Promenade - Pedestrian Only and Authorised Vehicles
- This is where the Town Hall and promenade meet.
- This area is for pedestrians and authorised vehicles only.
- The only vehicles you will likely see are emergency vehicles, road trains (taking passengers along the promenade for a fee) and service vehicles.
- The pathways are concrete, tarmac and block paving.
- The pathway is level.
- The pathways are wide and can be uneven with loose shingle in parts.
- There are 8 steps to exit the promenade onto Undercliffe Road West.
- These steps are unmarked and have handrails on both sides and can be bypassed using a slope to the right.
- The slope is steep and has no handrails.
- There are no obstructions along this part of the promenade.
- There is bench seating available throughout.
Town Hall to Felixstowe Pier via the Promenade/Beach Information Hut - Pedestrian Only and Authorised Vehicles
- This section covers the promenade between the Town Hall to Felixstowe Pier, via the Beach Information Hut.
- This area is for pedestrians and authorised vehicles only.
- The only vehicles you will likely see are emergency vehicles, road trains (taking passengers along the promenade for a fee) and service vehicles.
- There is a steep upwards slope to exit the promenade onto Undercliff Road West.
- The slope has no handrails.
- The pathways are concrete, tarmac and block paving.
- The pathway is level throughout.
- The pathways are wide and can be uneven in parts.
- There are no obstructions along the pathway.
- There will be access to several beach huts and some vendors along the route.
- There is a slight upwards slope with a handrail on the left leading from the promenade up to Felixstowe Pier.
- There is bench seating available throughout the route.
Junction – Felixstowe Pier and Promenade
- This is where Felixstowe Pier and the promenade meet.
- This area is for pedestrians and authorised vehicles only.
- The only vehicles you will likely see are emergency vehicles, road trains (taking passengers along the promenade for a fee) and service vehicles.
- The pathways are concrete, tarmac and block paving.
- The pathway is level.
- The pathways are wide and can be uneven in parts, with some manhole covers.
- There are 8 steps to exit the promenade onto Undercliffe Road West.
- These steps are not clearly marked, have handrails on both sides and can be bypassed using the ramp to the right.
- There is tactile paving at the top and bottom of the steps.
- The ramp is steep and has handrails on both sides.
- There is tactical paving at the start and at the end of the ramp.
- There are no obstructions along the pathway.
- There is no seating available throughout, except for on the pier itself.
- Felixstowe Pier is available at this junction.
Felixstowe Pier to Seashore Village Public Toilets via the Promenade - Pedestrian Only and Authorised Vehicles
- This section covers the promenade between the Felixstowe Pier and Seashore Village Public Toilets.
- This area is for pedestrians and authorised vehicles only.
- The only vehicles you will likely see are emergency vehicles, road trains (taking passengers along the promenade for a fee) and service vehicles.
- There is a slight downwards slope from Felixstowe Pier onto the promenade.
- The slope has a handrail on the left going down.
- There is also ramped and stepped access to Felixstowe Leisure Centre via this pathway.
- The ramp is steep with handrails on both sides and there are 7 steps with unclear markings and handrails on both sides.
- The pathways are concrete and tarmac.
- The pathway is level throughout.
- The pathways are wide and can be uneven with loose shingle in parts.
- There are no obstructions along the pathway.
- There will be access to several beach huts and some vendors along the route.
- There is bench seating available throughout.
Junction – Seashore Village Public Toilets and Promenade
- This is where the Seashore Village Public Toilets and promenade meet.
- This area is for pedestrians and authorised vehicles only.
- The only vehicles you will likely see are emergency vehicles, road trains (taking passengers along the promenade for a fee) and service vehicles.
- The pathways are concrete, tarmac and compacted gravel.
- The pathway is level.
- The pathways are wide and can be uneven in parts.
- There are no obstructions along the route.
- There is bench seating available throughout.
- Seashore Public Toilets are available at this junction and so is Felixstowe Fitness Park.
- There are 2 slight ramps with handrails on both sides as you exit the promenade towards Seashore Village Public Toilets.
- There are also 3 unmarked steps with handrails on both sides to the right of the second ramp.
- The steps have tactile paving at the top and bottom.
Accessible Toilet(s)
- There are public toilets available along the route. These are at the northern end of the route, outside the Town Hall and at the southern end of the route called Seashore Village Public Toilets.
- There is a steep slope to access the accessible toilet next to the Town Hall from Undercliff Road West.
