Sudbury Streetscape - Sudbury Railway Station to Friars Lane via Town Centre

  • This guide is based in Sudbury Town Centre and covers the main town centre area from the train station
  • This guide covers the main shopping area of Sudbury along with some local landmarks.
  • This guide runs from the train station on Station Road towards the town centre via Great Eastern Road, and then and runs along Market Hill towards Gainsborough House and also to The Quay Theatre. The route is roughly 1.3 miles long (1800 metres), and would take roughly 25-35 minutes to walk on average but this is just a guide.
  • There are some slight and steep slopes along the route.
  • Pathway surfaces are concrete paving slabs, block paving and tarmac.
  • The pathways have some uneven sections, which include some raised manhole covers.
  • The road surfaces are tarmac, with dropped kerbs and tactile paving at most crossing points.

  • By Car
  • The A131 is approximately 0.1 miles away from the centre of the shopping area where King Street A131/Gainsborough Street A131/Friars Street B1115 meet.
  • Parking
  • There is limited street Blue Badge parking and standard parking available on most roads on the route. Several public car parks are also available on and around the route of this shopping area guide.
  • By Bus
  • There are several bus stops along most of the route with direct services available to Ipswich, Colchester, Long Melford and Bury St Edmunds.

  • Sudbury Station is located on Station Road, approximately 0.3 miles from Sudbury town centre
  • There is step-free access to all platforms at this station.

  • There is limited Blue Badge and standard on street parking on some parts of the main route, as well as on some surrounding side roads.
  • There is no charge for these parking bays.
  • Parking may be limited to 60 minutes for non-Blue Badge holders depending on the parking area.
  • Blue Badge holders may park in any of the bays for a maximum of 2 hours.

  • There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as, railings, cycle racks, bus stops, bins and signboards.

Sudbury Station to Great Eastern Road via Station Road

  • The road is a two-way road.
  • The surface of the road at all crossings is tarmac.
  • The pathways in this section are formed of concrete tiles/block paving.
  • The pathways on both sides are narrow in places
  • There is a steep uphill slope on a short section of the pavement along Station Road; however the rest of Station Road is level.
  • There are some uneven areas on the pathways throughout this section.
  • There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides, such as railings, cycle racks, bus stops, bins and signboards.
  • There are some side entrances to cross along the section, most have dropped kerbs, but most don’t have tactile paving.

Junction – Great Eastern Road and Station Road
