Getting Inside

Getting Around

  • Access View
    • There is step-free access between floors via lift.
    • There is a short but steep ramp, with no handrails, to access the majority of the 1937 Library on Level 2. This ramp has a width of 84cm.
    • There are 4 medium-height unmarked steps, with handrails on both sides, to access the Quiet Study area on Level 2 (East) in the 1937 Library.
    • These steps are bypassed by a platform lift, which has a manual door on the upper level and dimensions of 80cm x 140cm.
    • The lift doors have opening widths of 85cm. There is a short but steep ramp with no handrails when exiting the lift on the lower level.
    • The lift is slow moving and requires the button to be pressed for the duration, including the call button.
    • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
    • The following areas have step-free access via ramps: the majority of the library on Level 2.
  • Circulation View
    • There is a manual door along one of the circulation routes.
    • Access throughout may include narrow walkways and pillars.
    • The contrast between the walls and floor varies between low and high along circulation routes.
    • Some flooring is shiny and patterned.
    • There is no (or very little) background noise.
    • Wayfinding signage is not provided.
    • Seating available in the walkways includes: chairs with armrests, chairs without armrests, riser recliner chairs and benches.
    • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

    • There are no toilet facilities located in the Library and Information Centre 1937.

Entrance (Level 3 Entrance)

  • There is a single manual door to access the stairwell.
  • There are handrails on both sides, that are within reach.
  • The handrails are not easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
