COVID-19 Information

  • The information in this section was taken in November 2020.
  • There have been no changes to the venue's parking or entrances/exits as a result of COVID-19.
  • Hand sanitisers are available at all main entrances to buildings, car parks and wards/departments.
  • There is currently a restricted number of visitors allowed and some one way systems in place.
  • There is a reduction in the number of seats in waiting areas to achieve required social distancing.
  • Wall signage has been installed advising of social distancing and floor markings are in place advising where to stand when required to queue.
  • Protective screens are located at reception desks.
  • It is advised to keep left on stairwells.
  • Lifts are limited to two people at a time.
  • There have been no changes to the toilet facilities.
  • Users must comply with social distancing requirements and wear masks/facial coverings where required to do so.

Getting To The Hospital

  • By Road View
    • The main hospital entrance to the Freeman Hospital is located off Freeman Road. The Freeman Hospital is at the north of Newcastle in High Heaton. It can be easily accessed by public transport or car. If you have a sat nav, postcode is NE7 7DN.
    • The Blue Badge parking areas and the multi storey car park are located off Freeman Road.
  • By Bus View
    • The nearest bus stop to the Freeman Hospital main entrance is located on Freeman Road. There are two Bus services. Zone 27 routes 3,18,32,38,A. Zone 17 routes 3,6,7,8,18,32,38,340,16.
  • By Train View

Getting Help and Assistance

  • There is not a Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at the hospital.

Getting To (Ward 27A)

  • Ward 27A is/are located on level 3 inside ward 27.
  • Access to Ward 27a is via the the main Cardiothoracic entrance.
  • After entering the Cardiothoracic entrance, continue past the reception and turn right. Continue along the corridor past the toilets and turn left, follow this corridor to the lifts on the left. Take the lifts to level 4 and on exiting turn left, go through the double doors and turn left. Continue ahead and turn left. Ward 27 is located directly ahead. Ward 27A is located within Ward 27.
  • There is step free access, via lift, to Ward 27A.
  • Ward 27A is approximately 85m from the lifts.
  • There is a/are manual, heavy, double door(s) between the lifts and the department/service.
  • Wayfinding signage is provided.
  • Dementia friendly signage is not provided.
