COVID-19 Information

  • The information in this section was taken in November 2020.
  • There have been no changes to the venue's parking or entrances/exits as a result of COVID-19.
  • Hand sanitisers are available at all main entrances to buildings, car parks and wards/departments.
  • There is currently a restricted number of visitors allowed and some one way systems in place.
  • There is a reduction in the number of seats in waiting areas to achieve required social distancing.
  • Wall signage has been installed advising of social distancing and floor markings are in place advising where to stand when required to queue.
  • Protective screens are located at reception desks.
  • It is advised to keep left on stairwells.
  • Lifts are limited to two people at a time.
  • There have been no changes to the toilet facilities.
  • Users must comply with social distancing requirements and wear masks/facial coverings where required to do so.

Getting To The Hospital

  • By Road View
    • The main hospital entrance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary is located off Queen Victoria Road. The Leazes Wing entrance is located off Richardson Road. If you are using a sat nav to find the hospital please use the postcode NE1 4LP.
    • The Blue Badge parking areas and the multi storey car park are located off Queen Victoria Road.
  • By Bus View
    • The nearest bus stop to the Royal Victoria Infirmary main entrance is located on St Thomas Street. Bus services 16, 15, 32 and 50 run from this stop. The nearest bus stop to the Leazes Wing entance is located on Richardson Road, opposite this entrance.
  • By Train View
    • The nearest National Rail station is Newcastle.
  • By Underground View
    • The nearest Metro Station is Haymarket.

Getting Help and Assistance

  • There is a Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at the hospital.

Hospital Parking (Leazes Wing Entrance)

Getting To (Ward 50)

  • Ward 50 is/are located on level 6.
  • Access to Ward 50 is via the Leazes Wing hospital entrance.
  • From the Leazes Wing main entrance, follow the corridor past reception, to its end (approximately 10 metres) and turn into the corridor on the right.
    Follow this corridor until you come to the East Block lifts which are clearly signed and located on the left (approximately 40 metres).
    Take the lift to the 6th floor.
    Turn left out of the lift and go through the double doors to the main corridor (approximately 5 metres).
    Turn right into the main corridor and then take the first right (approximately 5 metres).
    Go through the double doors and follow the corridor and Ward 50 is on the right.
  • There is step free access, via lift, to Ward 50.
  • Ward 50 is approximately 15m from the Leazes Wing lift.
  • There is a/are manual, double door(s) which may be difficult to open between the lifts and the department/service.
  • There are resting areas along the route.
  • Wayfinding signage is provided.
  • Dementia friendly signage is not provided.
